DICE RAW OF THE ROOTS MAKES HIS MARK WITH THE ACCLAIMED "JIMMY'S BACK" ALBUM
Mass Incarceration Concept Album Based on "The New Jim Crow"; Recent Stage Play Version Debuted at Philly's Kimmel Center
#FACT: NEARLY 50% OF BLACK MEN IN the U.S. ARE INCARCERATED BY 23 [Huffington Post, 1/6/14]
[PHILADELPHIA, PA] The plight of Black men in America is nearly universal - it's all about surviving against the odds, and according to a recent study, for nearly half, it's a losing battle in the fight to stay out of prison. DICE RAW of the legendary Roots Crew paints a masterful portrait of the Black man trapped in his own mental prison and the prison of urban life...especially the countless numbers of endangered, young Black men caught in the industrial prison complex of Dice's own Philadelphia and throughout the country.
"Get a thought, get a plan, and most importantly, get away..."
On instant classics like "RUN", DICE RAW sounds off with a melodic warning cry from his long-awaited "JIMMY'S BACK" mass incarceration concept album, based on New York Times bestselling book "The New Jim Crow by Dr. Michelle Alexander.
Shots firing, cops sirens...it's all so commonplace in the 'hood that it all sounds like a song to DICE RAW, the five-time Grammy-nominated rapper, songwriter, and producer who excels at lending thoughtfulness and raw emotion to The Roots masterpieces as well as his own music.
The December 10 album release was just the beginning. "JIMMY'S BACK" has also been adapted into a Hip-Hop musical entitled "The Last Jimmy", which debuted to rave reviews on January 8, 2014 at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Stay tuned for details on future dates!
