MP3: GLOVEZ - "I'm Wasted"

From Who Got Next:

MP3: GLOVEZ - "I'm Wasted"

Glovez is by no means your typical rapper. Ask most hip-hop artists taking their steps out onto the scene where they want to end up and you might hear them say they want to be the next Jay-Z or 50 Cent. But not this adopted New Yorker.

“Personally,” he says, “I just want to be me.”

It’s an attitude that is strikingly different from the usual biters and copycats clogging up the scene from coast to coast. And it is no surprise that Glovez musical output is as unique as his personality. With the launch of his first official mixtape – ‘Corporate Grind – You’re Fired Vol. 1”, Glovez is about to take his new, exciting message to the widest audience yet. The mixtape is a throwback to the days when hip hop was innovative, exciting music. And, just as importantly, to when it had a message.

What Glovez is railing against in his incendiary, electrifying debut release is the creeping influence of corporate culture on all aspects of American life. Having briefly given up on spitting rhymes to work in the belly of the corporate beast, Glovez knows his subject matter inside out. But he also links the mainstream corporate world with the new way that hip hop – his first love – is sold and marketed. Wanting to provide an alternative to the mainstream labels, which are just as cold and calculating as the biggest banks or business, Glovez takes his music to the street. Ready to take the next step, Glovez has begun to start up his next mixtape Corporate Grind - Your Fired Vol. 2 dropping mid 2012, so be on the look out! In the mean time Glovez is heating up the streets with his first official single “I’m Wasted” off his upcoming EP, Corporate Grind – You’re Fired EP.

From Trevor @ Score:

Free Cookbook Download: "Even If" - Album July 31st

RapReviews coverage: Cookbook: The Smell of Success.

Cookbook (born Jason P. Soto) is an entertainer; it runs in his blood. Since birth, Cookbook sang, and played piano, but it wasn’t until his late school years that he began to delve into the hip-hop scene. Early in his career he gained a respectable level of success with his super group L.A. Symphony.  He went on to release multiple albums with his group, as well as several albums with long time friend, and other half of the dynamic duo, Cookbook, and UNO Mas.

The Smell of Success has an uplifting vibe that will also be rolled out a spoofy video series that is sure to help millions achieve success with Cookbook at the helm channeling the self help universe.

Cookbook released the critically acclaimed I Love The 80’s in 2009, including a re-released deluxe edition later in December of that year.  In 2010, Cookbook released the single “When You Rock & Roll” with UNO Mas, which featured Evidence of Dilated Peoples. The video went on to win the Freshman contest on MTVu.com with 78% of the votes. In 2011, Cookbook released his long awaited mixtape, Original Recipes which features a collection of some of Cookbook’s best work to date, mixed, chopped, cut, and blended by one of hip-hop’s most talented turntablists, DJ Revolution of The World Famous Wake Up Show.

Original Recipes is a prelude to Cookbook’s upcoming album for 2012, The Smell of Success, which is set to be his realest album to date. This LP signifies Cookbook’s feeling that he is finally reaching the level of success that he has set for himself. The first single, “The Party’s Still Jumpin’” is featured in a national Suzuki commercial, setting up this album to be his most successful yet.

As an accomplished producer, and emcee, Cookbook has worked with some of the best artists, and producers the industry has to offer. He has toured the world, sharing the stage with many greats in Hip-Hop, Pop, and Rock.  His passion for Hip-Hop shines through his music, delivering that sound that gets the audience amped.

His music is fun, upbeat, & thought-provoking.  His stage show is exciting and engaging.  He leaves the crowd cheering for more everywhere he goes…

Cookbook is not just an emcee, or a producer; he’s an Entertainer.

@BrotherAliMpls to Release New Album Mourning in America

From Helio PR:

Brother Ali to Release New Album Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color

After racking up 10 million views on Youtube and rockin' stages from Coachella to Conan O'Brien - indie hip-hop's finest, Brother Ali is set to release his long awaited fourth studio album, Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color  produced by Jake One

* http://soundcloud.com/rhymesayers/brother-ali-stop-the-press *

Fully recharged and inspired by his eye-opening first trip to Mecca, the 2011 uprisings in the Middle East, and the world wide Occupy movements, Brother Ali is prepared to unveil his fourth full-length offering Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color. Created during a self-imposed two-month exile in Seattle and helmed by platinum-selling producer Jake One (50 Cent, T.I., Wiz Khalifa), the album presents a scathing yet honest critique of America and its many flaws while simultaneously presenting a hopeful outlook of its possibilities. Preceded by the release of free music downloads with accompanying music videos such as “Shine On," "Writer’s Block,” and “Not A Day Goes By," Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color is the pièce de résistance.
In an age of hip-hop where the paradigm of swag over substance reigns supreme, few emcees are willing to use their platform to tackle the hot-button topics and pressing social maladies of our time - but it’s apparent that Minneapolis-based hip-hop artist Brother Ali is one of those few. Over the course of 14 tracks with assists from esteemed author/ professor Dr. Cornel West, revered Southern hip-hop icon Bun B, and Def Poetry Jam poet Amir Sulaiman, the album brazenly holds a mirror to the idiosyncrasies of American life while simultaneously painting a vibrant portrait of its wondrous potential. Actualizing hip-hop’s full range of motion as a gage for the times, Mourning In America and Dreaming In Color asserts itself as the definitive soundtrack of a disenchanted, disenfranchised, and wildly optimistic citizenry during a landmark period in American history. In a moment of artistic preemptive strike, Brother Ali recognized this prime opportunity to examine and address the underpinnings of the burgeoning stance of mass opposition:
“This is not just a new album, but a new chapter. There’s a kind of democratic reawakening in people at this point in time. I was really looking to take these topics and really hit them hard. To try to open ears and hearts and invite people to take some action and feel empowered. To be engaged and take some agency and responsibility for what’s going on in the world.”
Melding the zeitgeist of classic works such as Ice Cube’s critical 1991 album Death Certificate and Marvin Gaye’s 1971 sociopolitical opus What’s Goin’ On with his keen observations on topics such as race, the Occupy movement, and the hypocrisy of war, Brother Ali has crafted a fresh lyrical approach and dynamic new sound - the result is a stunning collection of hard-hitting lyrics and beats.
The state of the union address commences with “Letter To My Countrymen,” a spirited appeal to fellow Americans with a tailor made guest vocal from Cornel West. Brother Ali speaks on the institution of poverty on “Only Life I Know” while the quasi-autobiographical “Stop The Press” addresses his albinism, the death of his father, and his remarkable yet challenging journey through hip-hop. “Mourning In America,” in part the album’s title track, offers a brutally honest look at America’s convoluted and hypocritical relationship to murder. Featuring a searing verse from poet Amir Sulaiman, “Gather Round” is a battle cry to the masses to take an ardent interest in the social ills plaguing society. Brother Ali puts underemployment and hyper consumerism in the face of socioeconomic turmoil on blast on “Work Everyday.” “Need A Knot,” featuring the voice of Bun B, finds Brother Ali skillfully veiling a series of odd jobs in analogies of illegal hustles. “Namesake” is the seldom-told tale of a pre-fame Muhammad Ali – one of America’s most dynamic personas whom Brother Ali is also named after. The set ends with the outro “Singing This Song,” a track that showcases another one of Brother Ali’s passions – speaking engagements. The song features highlights of Ali's riveting public address at a mass demonstration demanding justice for Trayvon Martin.

Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, in all its sonic and lyrical glory, promises to be both the voice of a burgeoning new critical American consciousness and the beacon of hope for those that hold fast to its ideals and potential.

From Brosseau PR:

Louisville-based hip hop group Villebillies have released their third (and long-awaited) full-length studio album, APPETITE FOR DYSFUNCTION (Island Earth Music). The 16-track album includes the single, “Talk To Me” which can be heard on terrestrial, satellite and Internet radio shows across the country.

APPETITE FOR DYSFUNCTION, while exuding the cross-genre sound the group has been known for since its 2006 self-titled debut, is lyrically progressive, reflecting the years following their last studio release (2008’s FROM THE BELLY OF THE BEAST). The band has emerged unscathed with a collection of new material that unites the nostalgia of the “early times” with the innovation that continues to keep Villebillies difficult to define.

The moody, atmospheric opening piece, “Midnight” makes it clear that dense, impeccable harmonies and a slight twang do not mean a lighthearted listen. It’s only setting up for the next track, “Pure to the Grain” which, supported by an upfront rhythm section, melodic hook, and rock sensibility, reminds that Villebillies’ four frontmen are also lyric spitters of formidable force. The blues-groove of “Rocket Queen” further demonstrates the versatility and virtuosity of this collective, which regularly includes anything from hip hop style samples to hillbilly banjo licks to classical strings arrangements. But the standout is the dark surprise of “Talk To Me,” a track that is so musically attractive and accessible that it only barely disguises the point of view of a serial killer.

Villebillies is a true band, having played hundreds of shows across the United States, sharing the stage with independent and major acts, from Hed PE to Hank Junior to Method Man. Villebillies’ originality and authenticity has turned the heads of even the most skeptical audiences, earning the band a large and diverse fan base.

“…filled with subtly clever production flourishes…giant hooks, the band’s collective (and essential) sense of humor, and guitars…the Villebillies write songs, not chord changes, and they sing instead of shout.”

“A unique blend of hip-hop and rock like you have never heard.

It's like Outkast meets Kid Rock.”

Villebillies are Demi Demaree, Dylan O’ Daniel, Derek “Child” Monyhan and Dustin “Tuck” Tucker on vocals. Tim Bernauer drums, Ron Ping bass guitar, Justin Reid electric guitar, William “BJ” Young keys/ production and Adam Goff on acoustic guitar. APPETITE FOR DSYFUNCTION was self-produced and mastered by Joel Hopper (except “O’Death”).

APPETITE FOR DSYFUNCTION is available online at iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, 7digital, Spotify and at the band’s website.

From DM360:

Free Album: The Nezitiq Mute & DJ Concept - "This Glorious Nightmare"

Somewhere between a twisted nightmare and harsh reality, The Nezitiq Mute and DJ Concept take your brain to the outskirts of Hip-Hop. Influenced by elements of both Rock and Hip-Hop, The Mute prove that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, as they concoct a glorious nightmare over the dark and sometimes beautiful soundscape, produced entirely by Concept. All nightmares start somewhere and this one starts with a chemically induced, governmental experiment. Prepare.
