Big Pooh can hardly wait for November 1st to release his upcoming album, Dirty Pretty Things. Neither can his fans, so, in giving loyalists a chance to get an early glimpse at his sophomore solo effort, the North Carolina MC is releasing an official album sampler. Clocking in at a little over 10 minutes, the sampler includes standout songs from DPT, and is masterfully blended by South Carolina's DJ Skillz, who can also be heard providing the hype for the sampler's introduction.
The album sampler starts off with Big Pooh's most recent single, "They Say," which was released last week and features singer Choklate. Next comes the ominously melodic, Nottz-produced and Torae-featuring "Are You Ready," followed by Pooh's tribute to women, "Around The World (Ladies Love)" featuring Novel. "Real Love," which deals with Pooh's relationship with his brother and features vocals and production by Focus..., is also featured before the sampler fades out on the track "Free" featuring BlackSoul. "I decided to put out a sampler to give the people a little taste of the improved me," says Big Pooh, "If singles are the hors d'oeuvres, then let the sampler serve as an appetizer before the full meal."
Next week, on October 24th, Rob Jay will release Millionaire Before 30, a new EP, produced by Drums & Ammo's Ammbush, that serves as both a personal goal and a pledge from the up-and-coming Houston rapper. Before then, though, Rob Jay is excited to release the John Dew-featuring "Wise Man," a brand new single from the eight-track project.
For Rob, the new single serves as a testament of dedication, delivering what he calls "an old school type of message." He goes on to explain, "The hook is a saying that my cousins dad always says, and at the same time it was like a message to the fans almost like telling them, 'I'm still that guy'." Ammbush's soulful sample provides an ample perfect foundation for Rob Jay and John Dew to trade their insightful lyrics, and they do just that, with the chemistry between the three artists nearly effortless. "This song really was stress free, out of all the songs it was probably the easiest to record."
"Slained Sick" is founded on a soulful, sample-based beat from producer G Rocka that provides plenty of room for the west coast vet and the Coka Nostra member to roam into some serious dark rhyme territory. In other words, this is some of that really real rap. If this song’s so dope you feel like you need to hear it twice, you’re in luck. Fans can first cop it when it appears on the DJBooth-hosted Event 20/20 Music Series and again when it anchors Jacken’s upcoming Outdated album. For info on the newly-released 20/20 BAS studio monitors, check out Event Electronics’ official site - and keep it locked to DJBooth.net for further entries in the series throughout October and November.
