Hailing from NYC—by way of Denver, Colorado—emcee and producer Deca is a refreshing voice on today’s musical landscape. Today, Deca is ready to test his mettle on a national stage with his fourth album, The Ocean, to be released September 24, 2013.
On his latest disc, Deca tackles some heavy subject matter. He plunges into the beautiful and terrifying aspects of life, human nature, and dreams, with a mixture of tongue-in-cheek wit and stoic conviction. On the track “Edenville,” a song of redemption, Deca charges the fall from grace is a psychological shift more than a physical one. The chorus speaks to a nostalgia for a paradise lost.
“The ocean is one of the most familiar symbols of the unconscious mind,” explains Deca of the albums title. But it’s for the listener to decipher the metaphors in his lyrics. The track “Breadcrumbs” is the first video release off the LP. In the video, Deca and his sidekick Tibo answer a distress call from a space station under siege by the forces of evil. After the duo save the space station, the video pan's out to deep space where two light beings are playing a game of cosmic chess, conveying the message that there are higher forces at work beyond the world that we know.
Threading the LP together are unscripted interludes which are taken from Deca’s own recorded interviews with friends, family, and people on the street about some of the most significant dreams they've had. "I would listen back to the dreams I recorded, and notice similarities in the themes, and also how conceptually, their dreams directly related to the songs I was writing", adds Deca.
Deca may be new to the national stage, but he’s been garnering accolades for a number of years. Born in Denver, Colorado, early on Deca was part of two collaborative projects, Elemental, a live band with four emcees, and Prana, a duo formed with fellow Elemental emcee Ichiban. While performing regularly with Prana he became part of the Hip Hop collective known as L.I.F.E. Crew, who were seminal in helping to shape the local scene throughout the 2000’s and were voted best hip-hop crew by the Denver Westword.
In 2003, Deca released his first solo effort, Top of the Line Bottom Feeder. The project was followed a few years later with The Hedonist, which documented Deca’s descent into substance abuse.
The excessive lifestyle outlined in The Hedonist led to a brief move to LA (and then to Queens, NY) where Deca began work on his first fully self-produced album titled The Veil, which not only was featured on URB, Kevin Knottingham, and DJ Booth, but was recognized as one of the best albums of 2011 by The Westword who said, “Propelled by some stellar production and Deca's wicked wordplay and compelling cadence — what he has to say is every bit as captivating as how he says it — The Veil was one of the most rewarding hip-hop listens of the year. Although the MC's travels have taken him to L.A. and NYC, he still has strong Denver ties.”
B.o.B.'s official tour DJ, Shawty Slim just came off of the 20-city Under The Influence Of Music Tour, which featured B.o.B, Wiz Khalifa, Trinidad Jame$ and more. New FreEP from Siah "10:13" ("Revelation" f/ Canibus & "Shady" f/ Bizzy Bone Inc

Muncie, IN native Siah, also known as Siah Soze blesses the Hip-Hop community with the 2013 release of his FreEP “10:13”. The EP features eight tracks with 2 additional Bonus cuts and includes guest appearances from the likes of Bizzy Bone, Kurupt of The Dogg Pound, Canibus, Indy’s own M-Eighty, Nino Graye and fellow Kutthroat member Whitehead.
Siah’s history on the Indy music scene is very thorough in both the realms of on and off stage as Siah was a former member of both The Kutthroatz (2006) and the Iron Workers Guild (2008) better known as I.W.G. Siah also released his debut solo album “Organized Rhyme” hosted and produced by legendary beatmaker Domingo in 2009 to critical acclaim throughout Indiana and the USA. He has also shared stages throughout the Midwest with the likes of Black Sheep, Canibus, Digable Planets, Aesop Rock, Cappadonna, Glass City and more.
At press time Siah and a couple of the albums contributors had this to say on behalf of the artist and the “10:13” project:
“Siah is by far the deadliest emcee I’ve ever seen with both mic skills and cam skills. He could literally blow your mind in a cipher lyrically while filming your facial expressions. Definitely an unexpected explosion of illness!” –Cappadonna (Wu-Tang Clan)
“Siah is a member of that new wave of emcee who understands where the art is going and still has one foot rooted in the golden era and you can hear it in his delivery and his passion to embrace not only the mic but the culture as a whole.” –Canibus
“To me this project is my peace offering to Indy. To let the city where I come from (Muncie) know who I am, what I stand for and the work that I’ve been embracing on a larger scale in hopes of bringing the light back home and to all artists in Indy, the Midwest and worldwide.”

Tanya Morgan Readies Third LP Rubber Souls w/ Producer 6th Sense
Courtesy Ballin PR.
After the release of the first single "For Real" earlier this year, Brooklyn based hip-hop duo Tanya Morgan are readying their third LP, Rubber Souls, produced by New York producer 6th Sense (B.o.B., Outasight, Talib Kweli, Mickey Factz, Homeboy Sandman, The Lonely Island, etc.). To be released on September 24th on ImprintOne80, Rubber Souls is a fuller, more robust sound than group's previous two discs, reflecting their decision to shake up the entire recording process for this project. Not only did they hand the production reins to an outsider for the first time, but they also added a stable of musicians with whom to collaborate. Moreover, Donwill and Von Pea recorded each song on the album together (as opposed to individually as they have in the past).
"This album shows us stepping out of our comfort zone to great results," explains Von Pea. "It brought out a new type of chemistry in our music." Instrumentally ambitious, Rubber Souls is about expansion. Challenging both artists and musicians, producer 6th Sense gives his interpretation of the Tanya Morgan sound - "The result in an album that will satisfy long time fans and shock non-believers," adds Donwill.
Today, Tanya Morgan are Donwill and Von Pea. Hailing from both Brooklyn and Cincinnati, the group--originally a trio--formed on the message boards of Okayplayer.com in 2003 when Donwill, Ilyas Nashid and Von Pea were all solo artists trading demos and beat tapes. The three MCs decided to collaborate for a one-off project and settled on the name Tanya Morgan - an inside joke to trick hip-hop crate-diggers and sample-searchers into thinking the record was an old-school soul singer. After their debut album, Moonlighting, was endorsed by the likes of ?uestlove in 2006 and was received enthusiastically by fans, Tanya Morgan decided to keep working together and keep the name. In the wake of Moonlighting_’s critical success, the group released its follow-up, 2009’s Brooklynati_ which saw the group reach more fans and beguile more journalists as it was widely regarded as one of the year’s best hip hop releases.
Since Brooklynati, the group has reformed with Ilyas moving on to focus on his solo material and video production while Von Pea and Donwill continue to tour as Tanya Morgan, supporting the group’s classic material as well as the members’ first solo releases: Donwill’s Don Cusack In High Fidelity and Von Pea’s Pea’s Gotta Have It, both released in 2010.
Tanya Morgan has received acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Vibe, SPIN, XXL Magazine, XLR8R, Los Angeles Times, The Onion, NY Magazine and a bevy of other press outlets who have praised the group throughout the duration of their career.
