When most of us think about payola we get visions of unscrupulous major label executives sending large sums of money to, and showering gifts on, radio DJs and Program Directors in exchange for putting a mediocre artist they’re trying to push on the airwaves. The practice of payola, however, had its start in America as early as the 1890’s, when music publishers paid to have their songs played in beer gardens.

HIP HOP FRESHMAN VADO’S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW PROJECT, SLIME FLU SET TO HIT RETAIL AND DIGITAL DOWNLOAD STORES TUESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2010
(New York, NY) — Hip Hop newcomer Vado is set to release his newest project, Slime Flu on October 12th, 2010 via Entertainment One Music. Slime Flu is Vado’s first official solo offering and is sure to be a classic.
Slime Flu was originally supposed to be released online as a free download for fans, but the project built up such a demand that it warranted an official eOne release. “Everybody goin’ crazy for it,” he said. “I’ve always been skeptical with the project ’cause I didn’t really know when I wanted to put it out… [Cam and I] was comin’ out with the Gangsta Grillz: Boss of all Bosses…so it just built a buzz and anticipation for it so [labels] started reachin’.”
Vado is releasing singles every week up until the release of the Slime Flu so that fans don’t feel short changed. “I’m leakin’ an original song every week, every Monday,” he explained. “I’m damn near givin’ y’all a mixtape. By time the [CD] drop, I’m givin’ y’all bout at least 10 unreleased songs!”
Born and raised in Harlem, NY. Vado started writing from the age of 15 and at the age of 19 he started to take his artistry to another level. He spent several years creating a buzz for himself before he encountered one of his Harlem bred Idols, Cam’ron. "The vibe between me and Cam was crazy," remembers Vado. "I'm from his 'hood on 142nd and Lennox, so once we started kickin' it like Goodfellas and he started recording with me, it was history in the making." Vado expresses the vibe between Cam'ron and himself.
The self proclaimed “most hated,” is becoming one of Harlem’s most beloved with two projects alongside Cam’ron Boss of all Bosses 2.5 and Gunz N’ Butta as well as his solo release Slime Flu in the works for this year.
Gunz N’ Butta is a duet album with both Cam’ron and Vado on all 16 tracks. The first single, “Speakin’ in Tungs” was a top 10 song on New York’s Hot 97 radio station. Vado says of Gunz N’ Butta, “It’s our first album and I promise it’s so much of a classic. It’s like all the Boss of all Bosses tapes put together. We hit y’all from all angles—we hit y’all from the streets, for the ladies, for the club… It’s five stars, man.”
