PR: Boston Emcee Dagha & Project Tree Announce Two-Song Single

From Jerry Graham:

PR: Boston Emcee Dagha & Project Tree Announce Two-Song Single

May 2012 (Boston, MA)-One of Beantown’s most consistent emcees, Dagha has announced the release of a two-song single with Project Tree on May 11th. Though they have performed together numerous times in the past few years, the two songs (Let It Go and Mama Africa) mark the first time the emcee and the live band have released material together. Composed of guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion and at times backing vocalists and acoustic instruments, Project Tree bring a roots reggae and R&B sensibility to Dagha’s conscious but fierce lyrics. The live pairing has performed alongside such notables as Insight, Moe Pope, Ayanna Pressley, Colonel McGovern, Lisa Bellow, Big Drift, Edan, Mr. Lif and Euloge of Benin.

The two songs will be part of the full-length album “Complex Simplicitree" that Dagha and Project Tree are preparing for a fall 2012 release. Known for his deep timbred voice and funky flow, Dagha’s vocals has graced tracks with the likes of his Boston brethren, Mr Lif, Insight, Al-J and EDO.G. Many fans know him for his classic appearance on long time comrade Edan’s “Beauty And The Beat” album (2005). Appearing on the track “Rock And Roll” Dagha also was featured heavily in Edan’s live show for several years after, constantly touring the world including the U.S., Europe and Japan.

A leading proponent of “grown man rap” Dagha bared his soul to classic sounding east coast boom bap on his last full-length album 2008’s The Divorce (Lewis Recordings). That album lyrically captured his tumultuous marriage and the dissolution of that union while not holding back on the real life decisions and mistakes he’s made. In 2010 Dagha also dropped an EP for Noise Is The Trigger, his project with New York beatmaker Psych Major which had appearances from Smoothe Da Hustler, Lil Dap and Al-J.

Backing up his lyrics, Dagha has been able to use his rhyme skills to empower urban youth becoming the Education Director for Boston of national non-profit organization, America Scores. In this position Dagha implements poetry and rhyme-writing curriculum to 10 Boston area public middle schools and trains instructors to fill this role at each school. Dagha and some of his students were featured on CNN as well as being recognized by President Obama for their achievements working with young people.

MP3: DJ Soko - "Stand Up" (prod. Apollo Brown)

From Mello Music Group:

MP3: DJ Soko - "Stand Up" (prod. Apollo Brown)

DJ Soko and Apollo Brown, two thirds of acclaimed group The Left, command you to “Stand Up.” For this brazen order, Soko enlists Brown on the boards and the incomparable mic skills of Guilty Simpson and Hassaan Mackey.

The 4th installment in Mello Music Group’s monthly 7” series finds Apollo finessing a triumphant horn loop that would make Pete Rock proud, while Soko adds personality to the beat via a scratch chorus made up of declaratives from past classics by Pharoahe Monch and M.O.P.. Motor City rhyme animal Guilty Simpson stomps into the track, providing a sixteen bar reminder why he’s one of the fiercest on the mic today. Low Budget’s Hassaan Mackey takes the baton from Guilt, inviting you to take his lines “like a razor to the throat.” Two raw MC’s going for theirs over an equally unprocessed beat; there is little gloss present here, this is meat-and-potatoes rap for hungry heads.

PR: Role Model Records Sets a New Standard with Syntax

Role Model Records shares its message of hope and redemption internationally as it partners with Syntax Distribution. Role Model Records CEO Sola Ogunbitan says, "We are so excited to be working with Syntax. It's like a dream come true to be partnered up with such an integral company to get our music to the masses."  With Syntax Distribution, Role Model expands from its home base in Canada to the furthest reaches of the globe.

"When I met Sola at the Legacy Conference in Chicago as part of the Rapzilla panel, I could tell that he wasn't a rapper-turned-CEO or an artist trying to run a label," Syntax President and CEO Tim Trudeau says. "He was a serious businessman and a genuine entrepreneur using his skill to help artists."

The crew behind Role Model Records is looking forward to an exciting second half of 2012 as it's set to release Dominion in August. The album will feature Role Model recording artists Spoken, Julien, and Boogie as well as DJ Lagit.

Ogunbitan adds, "We feel right at home and confident that our music will be handled with care and passion. We wouldn't have it any other way."

"I've had great times in the past with Syntax Records, so it’s a joy to experience that joy all over again from the other side of the table. It’s exciting to be a part of what others are doing in their respective scenes,” Trudeau says.

Established in Toronto, Canada, Role Model Records is an urban record label dedicated to living a non-conforming lifestyle and reflecting the light of the Gospel of Grace. To learn more about Role Model Records, visit: http://rolemodelrecords.ca .
