2Racks Rap Contest creator, co-producer and host Sellassie is an independent hip hop artist, entrepreneur and activist. With an acclaimed debut release, I'm Tryin' to Make a Livin' Not a Killin', and a new follow-up album, Sins of Your Forefathers, Sellassie is carving his niche and shining as a leading progressive voice and face of independent Hip Hop. Although inspired and motivated from reading hundreds of books, Sellassie is self-taught and came up on the streets. Sellassie's lyric is rooted in a deep comprehension of the world around him. He writes on domestic and world politics, international relations and community needs, corporate thuggery and the obstacles independent artists face. He has seen first hand the problems that his music addresses. He has seen black on black crime, homicide, the plight of drugs and money destroying his community, and witnessed the decay of Independent Hip Hop. In addition to the new record, Sellassie has built a revolutionary show series WE ALL WE GOT and 2Racks Rap Contest, is working with many social, political and youth based initiatives, and is a contributor to various special projects including the film, "It Doesn't Cost Nothin' to Dream."

2Racks Rap Contest is a series, with stops in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, San Francisco, Orlando, Seattle, Berkeley, Pasadena and Honolulu. With 2Racks and WE ALL WE GOT, the team has produced over 80 successful events in just over the last year in more than 15 markets. Our shows are independent artist created events for independent artists. With the pulse of the streets and the heart of the people, 2Racks Rap Contest is determined to pack clubs with new music and cultivate a thriving environment for emerging talent.

L.A. producer/artist Shane Eli may be across the country in NYC for the CMJ Music Festival, but the city inspired some serious production for this week's #FreeBeatFridays. Today's selection finds Shane unleashing the soulful banger "Lord Help Us", a cut designed to spark some serious rhymes from serious emcees.

Rappers, producers, artists, lovers of dope beats, have at it.

Big Pooh can hardly wait for November 1st to release his upcoming album, Dirty Pretty Things. Neither can his fans, so, in giving loyalists a chance to get an early glimpse at his sophomore solo effort, the North Carolina MC is releasing an official album sampler. Clocking in at a little over 10 minutes, the sampler includes standout songs from DPT, and is masterfully blended by South Carolina's DJ Skillz, who can also be heard providing the hype for the sampler's introduction.

The album sampler starts off with Big Pooh's most recent single, "They Say," which was released last week and features singer Choklate. Next comes the ominously melodic, Nottz-produced and Torae-featuring "Are You Ready," followed by Pooh's tribute to women, "Around The World (Ladies Love)" featuring Novel. "Real Love," which deals with Pooh's relationship with his brother and features vocals and production by Focus..., is also featured before the sampler fades out on the track "Free" featuring BlackSoul. "I decided to put out a sampler to give the people a little taste of the improved me," says Big Pooh, "If singles are the hors d'oeuvres, then let the sampler serve as an appetizer before the full meal."

Next week, on October 24th, Rob Jay will release Millionaire Before 30, a new EP, produced by Drums & Ammo's Ammbush, that serves as both a personal goal and a pledge from the up-and-coming Houston rapper. Before then, though, Rob Jay is excited to release the John Dew-featuring "Wise Man," a brand new single from the eight-track project.

For Rob, the new single serves as a testament of dedication, delivering what he calls "an old school type of message." He goes on to explain, "The hook is a saying that my cousins dad always says, and at the same time it was like a message to the fans almost like telling them, 'I'm still that guy'." Ammbush's soulful sample provides an ample perfect foundation for Rob Jay and John Dew to trade their insightful lyrics, and they do just that, with the chemistry between the three artists nearly effortless. "This song really was stress free, out of all the songs it was probably the easiest to record."

"Slained Sick" is founded on a soulful, sample-based beat from producer G Rocka that provides plenty of room for the west coast vet and the Coka Nostra member to roam into some serious dark rhyme territory. In other words, this is some of that really real rap. If this song’s so dope you feel like you need to hear it twice, you’re in luck. Fans can first cop it when it appears on the DJBooth-hosted Event 20/20 Music Series and again when it anchors Jacken’s upcoming Outdated album. For info on the newly-released 20/20 BAS studio monitors, check out Event Electronics’ official site - and keep it locked to DJBooth.net for further entries in the series throughout October and November.

Earlier this year, Event Electronics debuted their 20/20BAS monitors, the latest version of a product whose music industry legacy stretches back to 1995. Now, DJBooth.net has come together with the audio equipment manufacturer to offer one lucky reader the chance to upgrade his/her studio with their very own set of the speakers, hailed by our staff reviewer as "[delivering] impeccable sound without any bells, whistles or glitz," along with a Rode/Event Prize Pack that includes a Rode M1 Mic. Twenty runners-up will also receive prize packs.
