Audio: B-Side - Peep This (prod. Sacramento Knoxx)

"I heard this beat at a Beat Showcase Sacramento Knoxx did when he was in Detroit. We had talked about working together in the past, and he told me that if I heard anything that grabbed me to let him know. This was the one that grabbed me. It was very grungy and in-your-face, and I knew it was something that not everyone could spit over. So when I got his blessing to use the beat, I knew I had to come correct. I figured this would be the type of beat you could spit all the way through on, as long as you made your bars count."

We here at Deep Thinka Records are super stoked that the world didn't end last week because 2013 - our 16th year in operation - is going to be one for the ages!
First off, we're excited to announce that we'll be spreading both the love and the vinyl overseas via a new international partnership with Planetworks Enterprises, a worldwide sales and distribution company that specializes in bringing the work of independent labels to eager overseas fans.
And fans both here and abroad can expect some pinnacle albums in 2013 including (but not limited to) the much anticipated Gettin' Gatsby'd by Mad Dukez with super-producer Fresh Kils. This is more than just a rap record; much like the album's namesake, it is a seminal endeavor that applies complex narrative to cohesive themes. The dynamic duo's five track prequel EP, Monsters is available now for only $2.99.
Polish producer Deft Aphid and Brooklyn emcee Loki da Trixta form international sensation, The Breadmakerz, and they are baking up their debut album, Bridge to the Stars. The album is almost ready and this Eastern-European Dub Step / Glitch-Hop / Electronic masterpiece includes tons of surprise cameos hidden in it.... and yes, it does require that many descriptives. Give their earlier work a listen and you'll see what we mean.
Keeping the international flavor flowing, another hot commodity is our Canadian pride and joy Atherton, whose hugely successful album No Threat took over the top slots on the College Radio Charts in both the USA and Canada. Now, No Threat has been licensed by MTV and Discovery for programming usage, so be sure to keep your ears open the next time you see Snooki spouting about something stupid on your TV, you might just hear Atherton in the background!
At the demand of his fans, we will be pressing Coolzey's debut album, The Honey, to limited edition 12” vinyl. The CD version of the album - which features guests appearances from Sadat X, Raashan Ahmad and Copywrite - sold out very quickly, so we'll be bringing it back in the most genuine of all musical media: the phonographic record. Stay tuned on this because once we press them, they'll be gone.
New Artists & New Events!
Even with all this international buzz happening, we're still keeping our roots underground with the signings of new local acts such as Frigid Giant; and with a new weekly Wednesday night event called Talkin' Plowed, a multi-genre (punk, hip hop, zydeco - you name it) DJ night with drink specials and lots of Buffalo pride.
And keeping our roots in the ground means giving back too. As a follow up to our hugely successful 2012 fundraisers, Being B.I.G. and Being Beastie, we proudly present Doin' Dilla. Going down at DBGB in Buffalo on February 8th, Doin' Dilla will benefit the J. Dilla Foundation, which helps to fund inner-city music programs and provides scholarships for students to attend schools with progressive music curricula. Look for the invite as we plan on spinning and performing some of the prolific Jay Dee's finest collaborations like Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Common, Janet Jackson and much more.
More info on Frigid Giant, Talkin' Plowed and Doin' Dilla to come, so stay tuned.
Block Starz Music Parts Ways With CEO, Launches New Indie Music & Television Website

Independent record label Block Starz Music LLC will celebrate its four year anniversary in January with a restructured staff and new web address. On December 24, the New Albany, Indiana-based music firm announced that its German chief executive officer, Kai Denninger, would no longer be with the company. The label's founder and president, Bayer Mack, will take over Denninger's duties, effective immediately.
“Kai Denninger will no longer be with the company,” Mack said in a brief statement posted to his personal LinkedIn profile on Christmas Eve. “Kai was instrumental in helping us build the Block Starz Music brand. He will be greatly missed and we wish him nothing but the best in all his future endeavors.”
Shortly after, Block Starz Music's website was taken offline -- the old URL now redirects to a European website owned by Denninger -- and was replaced by www.blockstarz.tv, which company execs say will focus on independent music videos and original web series by talent that won't be limited to its roster.
BlockStarz.TV is online, but is still in development according to Peppy Johnson, the company's former Vice President of A&R and newly-appointed Sr. Vice President of Music & Television, who expects the website to be “fully-realized” by February of 2013.
“Artists and projects signed to Block Starz Music will always take precedent, but our new website and personnel changes will allow us to collaborate with and showcase a wider range of talent,” says Johnson, who's overseeing various cable television projects for the label's 600-pound southern rapper, Ceddybu Rap Sumo. “The goal for our company's next four years is to make BlockStarz.TV a leading video distribution outlet for all forms of independent entertainment producers. That's a challenge, but it's very exciting.”
Block Starz Music LLC is a nationally-distributed American independent record label founded in 2008. Its catalog includes independent releases by Machine Gun Kelly, Lega-C, Rhymefest, and Fashawn as well as songs featuring Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Raheem DeVaugn, and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Block Starz Music has developed a diverse roster of new music artists and recently began developing original content for distribution across multiple platforms, including film, graphic novels, and television.
In "Headlocks," Toronto rhyme-slinger Scott Ramirez places his audience in a submission move while serenading them with personal thoughts, social commentary & rabid braggadocio over big band-type horns and thumping drums. Inspired by jazz records and dusty vice grip raps, produced by Justunlimited, this single is the first release off a performance heavy year with opening slots for the GZA, Masta Killa, J-Live and Stalley and since his official debut EP "Mad Work, Low Pay, Big Dreams" in 2011.
