R.I.P. Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes (May 27, 1971 April 25, 2002) @blockstarz

From Block Starz:

R.I.P. Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes (May 27, 1971 – April 25, 2002)

(Los Angeles, CA) April 25, 2012 marks the ten year anniversary for the passing of Grammy Award-winning TLC group member Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes. "The word anniversary means a celebration. For us her death will never be a celebration, it’s still something that hurts," says T-Boz. Group member Chilli agrees, "Lisa is our sister. You never get over losing a family member. We love her and we miss her and that isn’t ever going to change."

To commemorate the passing, German-American digital label Block Starz Music LLC ( has made a previously unreleased collaboration between Bootleg of The Dayton Family and Left Eye. Recorded a few months before her death, Left Eye‘s verse on the song "Fantasies" is reportedly the only 16-bar verse she ever recorded as a feature. A portion of the proceeds from "Fantasies" will go to the Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes Foundation.

2012 is also the 20th anniversary for the group and is filled with many surprises for TLC fans worldwide. Chilli and T-Boz are very excited to be executive-producing a biopic on the group’s story in conjunction with VH1. “This project is truly a dream come true for us,” says Chilli.

"What's Love Got To Do With It" scribe Kate Lanier will pen the project, which documents TLC’s rise to fame with 1991's "Ooooooohhh… On The TLC Tip" and their follow-up success with 1994's "CrazySexyCool," and eventually selling more than 65 million albums worldwide making them the biggest-selling girl group in history.

In addition to the movie, TLC is working on a 20th anniversary package, which will include tour dates, an album project with new music and several remixes on some of their favorite hits. Chilli and T-Boz say they are looking forward to giving new music to their eagerly awaiting fans and returning to the stage.

Video: Ecid - "Werewolf Hologram"

From Trevor Seamon:

Video: Ecid - "Werewolf Hologram"

Ecid is a kamikaze visionary: an artist with an all or nothing approach to every aspect of his art and life. Ambitious almost to a fault with an “us against them” DIY mentality, Ecid has self-booked, self released, and self-made his own movement. Ecid doesn’t try to sell you on any one way of life, he only sells you on the idea that you can live however you want. A Minneapolis native and a participant in the Twin Cities hip hop scene since 2003, all three of Ecid’s most recent releases have charted on the College Music Journal’s Hip Hop Top 40 chart. Collaborating with the likes of Eyedea, Awol One, and Kristoff Krane along the way, his smashing new album, Werewolf Hologram, is destined to make even bigger waves.

Mixtape/Video: Preseason Mix + "Saukrates' Philosophy: Part 3"

From Audible Treats:

Mixtape/Video: Saukrates - The Preseason Mix + "Saukrates' Philosophy: Part III"

Saukrates has rightly solidified himself as a legend in Toronto's hip-hop scene. He's influenced – and worked with – the city's brightest stars over the years, all while staying busy out on the road with Redman and in the studio working on his own albums. The latest of those albums is Season One, via FrostByte Media Inc./eOne, which is being released today through physical retail in Canada and digital retail in the U.S. The album will be released through physical retail in the U.S. this August.

To celebrate the release, Saukrates is giving fans a free mixtape, The Preseason Mix: Eastern Conference Edition, mixed by DJ Starting From Scratch, a collection of tracks throughout Saukrates' career, starting with his Capital Hill days in 1999 and continuing through his time with Warner, Def Jam, Gilla House, and more, before closing out with his current FrostByte material.

Asked why he decided to release the mixtape, Saukrates stated, simply, "Why not?" noting that the influence of friends and business associates encouraged him to get behind the project. "I forget how much of my material from an extensive period of my career hasn't been made available to everybody," says Saukrates. "It's heart-warming to know that friends and fans still hold a special place in their lives for my past material."

Accompanying the mixtape is the latest episode in Saukrates' recurring webisode series, "Saukrates' Philosophy." In this latest video, presented by FrostByte and produced by Huntclub, Saukrates breaks down the history of Canadian hip-hop, and in particular how coverage and recognition of the scene has developed, for the better, over time.
