PR: @Awon1988 - "For the Grimy" EP

From Antwan W:

PR: Awon - "For the Grimy" EP

Small towns always have their hero and Awon is dead set on putting Newport News, Virginia on the map for Underground Hip Hop. Awon was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Newport News, Virginia with his family as a small child to escape the madness of the city. One thing he was able to bring along was a sincere love of The Hip Hop Culture and he was able to hone his skills on the mic to become a prolific lyricist of the modern Underground Hip Hop scene. With a buzz abroad through several releases on independent international labels Awon now seeks refuge in his own home armed with a Mac Book Pro and a mic to create a nostalgic EP called For the Grimy.

Inspired by raw emcees from every Era of Hip Hop Awon pounds away on tracks with the direction of destroying anything in his path of becoming a star. Beginning with MVP and ending with the track Undefeated it is clear that a theme of Sports plays throughout the project. Newport News is the home of number one draft picks in multiple sports and since some view Hip Hop as "The Game" Awon deliberately portrays himself as the number one draft pick emcee. Released on awon.bandcamp.com today listeners should pick up this grimy piece of the real to taste a bit of what Hip Hop is supposed to sound like.

From Wanja Lange:

Audio: Edo G & Stereo Boyz - "Behind the Mic"

During their tour stop in Berlin, Germany the Stereo Boyz were a part of this collabo with Edo G and iGadget (Beatevolution), who produced “Behind the Mic”. The song will appear on iGadgets album, to be released this fall. With iGadget's incredibly smooth beat and a perfect combination of spitters (Edo G & Stereo Boyz) this song is a gem for all Hip Hop fans.

From Javi S:

MP3: Spoat - "Martians (Freestyle)"

The emerging rapper cleverly maligns more than a few industry vets on this cut over The Game's song "Martians vs Goblins." There hasn't been a track showcasing such cunning wordplay since 50 Cent's "How to Rob."

@AdamsWorldBlog Weekly 7/2 - A Change of Pace

Adam's World Weekly 7/2 - A Change of Pace

Welcome to the new week, and the new month, everyone. As all of you know, I burn the candle at every conceivable end, and while that's worked perfectly fine for me over the years, I started to feel a little overwhelmed recently. Knowing I needed to make a change or two to my work schedule, I decided to move Pop Shots to Monday starting this week. I have a full explanation as to why, along with not one, but TWO editions of Pop Shots, in this week's update (the newest one is first). I also have interviews with hip-hop trio Parallel Thought, and NYC nu metal band Xombie, as well as a photo gallery from Alex Kelly's album release party, and a Vid Pick from Jonny October (cuz who couldn't use a little October in their lives when it's 90+ degrees outside?).

If you dig any of these features please feel free to forward this email to a friend. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, and enjoy!

Pop Shots - In A Giving Mood

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings (which now comes to you on Monday). Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from will.i.am’s big charitable donation, to Quincy Jones and A Guy Called Gerald dishing out some insults, to Pentatonix giving Nicki Minaj’s “Starships” a unique vocal twist, and since it’s Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

A Much Needed Change Of Pace

As I’m sure many of you have noticed, I’ve picked up quite a bit of extra work in the past few months, most notably my NYC Scene reports and features for 101Distribution.com. Because I think I’m Superman, I took on this new weekly responsibility without even thinking of taking anything off my plate. What I’ve come to find is that’s a terrible combination for my sanity and creativity, not to mention it leaves little time to pitch, or work on anything long form. With that in mind I decided to make a few changes to my publishing schedule here at Adam’s World.

Xombie - NYC Hood Metal

Most of us remember the rise of nu metal in the late 90s that began with Korn and Limp Bizkit and continued with acts like Linkin Park. NYC's Xombie is looking to create a comeback of sorts for the genre, but in their own unique way. Rather than doing what's already been done, Xombie have crafted what they feel is the next step in the evolution of nu metal - Hood Metal.

Parallel Thought - It's Their Time To Shine

Parallel Thought, which is the trio of emcee Caness and producers Knowledge and Drum, is a group that’s been working its way into the collective consciousness of hip-hop fans over the past handful of years. In large part this is due to the amount of liner notes they’ve been showing up in. From working with Del The Funky Homosapien (who is pictured above with the production members of the group), to Tame One, to C-Rayz Walz, to Cannibal Ox, to Slug, to MF Doom, their resume has become quite impressive. Since 2004, however, something that’s been missing from that resume is an actual Parallel Thought album with all three members. That will be fixed on July 2nd with the release of Articulation, a free EP that will be available via the group’s bandcamp page. The EP comes on the heels of the release of their latest album with Del, titled Attractive Sin, and right before the July 24th release of their next instrumental album, The Art Of Sound.

I caught up with all three members of this unbelievably busy group to find out more about all their projects, why it’s taken so long for them to come out with another album as a trio, and the very interesting reaction they have when an album they’ve spent years working on gets shelved.
