From Mello Music Group:

MP3: Apollo Brown f/ Oddisee - "The Times"

The Half-Sudanese Musician Oddisee Voices His Thoughts on Africa's Newest Nation

Greetings:

Apollo Brown "Clouds" has been out now for just over a month and is still going strong!  The first pressing of CDs sold out in an amazing 2 days (Don't worry it's back in stock)! The demand has prompted a vinyl edition to be manufactured that will soon be available.  In the meantime, Apollo cooked up some special edition features for all the loyal supporters.

"Let's celebrate the end and get to startin' over"

Last week you heard Has-Lo & Apollo Brown join forces on Heirlooms,  but this week it's Oddisee & Apollo Brown on The Times.  Oddisee, who is half Sudanese, doesn't normally bring his politics to the table, but in this rare moment Oddisee offers an entire song devoted to the turbulent changes occurring in Northern Africa, in particular the historic vote that split his home country of Sudan into two separate nations.  The Republic of Southern Sudan is now the newest African nation: listen to Oddisee break his thoughts down over the Apollo Brown beat.

Listen deep as Oddisee reveals some of his most personal, political, and poignant lyrics ever:

"Indeed, congratulations are in order / I'm from north of the border / responsible for the slaughter / I was always on their side / for them I'ma always ride / bein' raised in the states I learnt we in the same tribe"

Look for the official deluxe editions release of Oddisee Odd Seasons May 17th on Vinyl, CD, and Digital.

Enjoy the song and feel free to post and share.

PR: Red Bull Academy 2011 No Longer in Tokyo

From Semp Rok:

Red Bull Academy 2011 No Longer in Tokyo

We have been in close contact with our Japanese team and friends since the terrible
earthquake and tsunami that struck on March 11, which resulted in severe problems at
Fukushima nuclear plant. After thorough evaluation, we have decided to relocate this
year's edition of the Academy, which was set to take place in Japan this fall.

A new location for the Red Bull Music Academy 2011 will be announced on Monday,
April 11. As a consequence, we have decided to extend the application period:
applications will now be accepted until April 26 (date of postmark).

The dates of the workshops, October 23 to November 25, will remain the same.

Throughout the last few months of preparation for the Tokyo Academy, we have gotten
to know Japan as a country; its immensely rich spirit, the beauty, some of the traditions
and innovative energy. We are honoured to have been introduced to so many interesting
people and to have been allowed to experience some of their creative vision. We truly
admire and respect their strength and courage in the face of this terrible situation.

We at the Academy also wish to show our solidarity and support for the Japanese music
makers who have been part of our journey. Hence, the Red Bull Music Academy floor
at SónarSound Tokyo this weekend will go ahead as planned. Profits from the festival
will be donated in support to those affected by the horrific events of March 11 and their
aftermaths.

We will continue to maintain strong links with the musical and creative scene in the
country, and hope to bring the full Academy experience to Japan in the not too distant
future.
