DM360: Hello 2013.. Year-End Wrap Up (via Takin' Mines)

After completing the launch our DM360 Network this past year, there's no doubt that 2012 was a busy year. Whether it be providing marketing support to our growing list of clients through Diamond Media 360, flooding the market with quality Hip-Hop titles via Coalmine Records, or providing daily Hip-Hop media updates through our blog Takin' Mines, it's fair to say that we didn't miss a beat. As we usher in the new year, let's recap 2012 and keep you posted as to what's in store for the new year..

After entering the blogosphere on February 28th of 2012, we thought we’d reflect a little on the past calendar year. Like Elliott Wilson discussed in his recent episode of The Truth, hip-hop has had its fair share of low points these past 12 months: the passing of Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch and beloved industry man Chris Lighty, not to forget 19-year-old Pro Era MC Capital STEEZ who apparently took his own life this past Christmas Eve; the split of legendary Mobb Deep (seriously Havoc and P, sort it out!); and rap icons shaming themselves live in battle (oh, we haven’t forgotten just yet, ‘Bus).

With that said, we figured it would be fitting share many of the highlights of the past year that came in the form of both audio and video, with our first annual year-end wrap up. Check out our top picks for videos, mixtapes, songs and albums of the year. If you care to voice your opinion, then feel free to leave your two cents in the comment sections.

Be sure to like http://www.facebook.com/takinmines on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @TakinMines.

As Hip-Hop and the Internet march merrily through the future hand in hand, the importance of the mixtape only grows. As its original definition of a collection of unmastered freestyles becomes archaic, the mixtape game has served as an essential platform for both fresh faces and established MCs alike to raise and reward their fanbase–and, boy, were we treated this year. With much scrutiny and even more head scratching, here we present to you our top 20 mixtapes of 2012. http://takinmines.diamondmedia360.com/2012/12/takin-mines-top-20-mixtapes-of-2012/ .

Whether it was Chief Keef and Young Chop helping drill rap to its finest hour, Nas rewriting Hip-Hop history (again), or Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre teaming up to give the world a taste of that classic West Coast flavor, it’s safe to say that 2012 has had a soundtrack as good as any. With offerings from everyone from ScHoolboy Q and A$AP Rocky to Oh No and AZ to Rick Ross and Gunplay, start the countdown of Takin’ Mines’ top 50 songs of 2012. http://takinmines.diamondmedia360.com/2012/12/draft-top-50-songs/ .

With the year’s music videos, mixtapes and songs rated and ranked, we bring you our list of the most prized offering of any calendar year: the studio album. The retail release will always be top dog–and this year was a prime example. The album format has helped a number of artists cement themselves as serious contenders in the game (Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill), while aiding others in adding to their legacy (Killer Mike, Sean Price). After a whole lotta tough decisions, we present to you our top 25 albums of 2012. http://takinmines.diamondmedia360.com/2012/12/draft-top-albums/ .

After coming off another impacting year with both full length, extended play, and single releases from the likes of M-Phazes (Phazed Out), Rah Digga, Torae, The Artifacts, Blu, Apathy & Celph Titled and Royce da 5'9", Skillz and Diamond D, we're eager to make 2013 our biggest year to date. While the finishing touches are getting placed on our highly anticipated label compilation Unearthed, we're pleased to announce new singles which features the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Kool G Rap, Large Professor, Sean Price, Billy Danze (of M.O.P.), Maffew Ragazino and more, along with a series of extended play releases from Guilty Simpson x Small Professor, Sean Price x M-Phazes, and Nottz, to name a few. Check out what's next in the pipeline below and be sure to keep up with our 'Inside The Mine' column, via coalminerecords.com.. can you dig it? http://takinmines.diamondmedia360.com/ .

Upcoming Releases:

As we get closer to the 2nd Quarter release of our long awaited Unearthed compilation, we get set to drop the project's next single, "Naturally Born," which features Q-Borough mic veterans Big Noyd, Large Professor and Kool G Rap. Produced by the legendary Queens-based beatsmith Ayatollah, the soundscape is rooted in a Golden Era motif that boasts a scratch chorus courtesy of DJ Dutchmaster.

2012 was our benchmark year to date (hands down) as we've become one of the premiere marketing consortiums in the genre. Not only providing online marketing and pr solutions for our growing list of clients, DM360 has continued to play an invaluable role of providing digital retail exposure for our labels and imprints. We have secured top rank college radio chart standings for several of our clients through our radio promotion services and have continued to place top notch production and craft incredible graphic design in the form of single, mixtape and album covers for a host of returning customers, through our consulting services. With your help, we look forward to becoming bigger and better in 2013. If you're interested in any of our services, please drop us a line at info@diamondmedia360.com.

First and foremost, I would like to give a big shout out to all my Goonies(eg. Goonies are what hip hop artist J. Shaw represents as his fans and members who believe in STANDING for something in life and not falling for ANYTHING!) I'm excited to share my new single "CARS AND MONEY" with all my GOONIES. The single "CARS AND MONEY" has a funny story behind the making of it's recording. I had some fake associates delete this song from the studio's computer out of pure jealousy. These are the same individuals who broke into my house. More on the story below.

Well I was smart enough to back up a copy of the song on my hard drive. GOONIES! Let's stand up and make this promo video for "Cars and Money" viral and show all the haters how positivity always prosper. Share this video to your inner circle and let's get the word out about "Cars and Money here.

New J-Zone Interview at The Onion A.V. Club: Money vs. Art

So I did an interview with Nathan Rabin of The Onion A.V. Club about our favorite things besides Kim and Kanye - money and art! I was asked about some of my harshest moments professionally and financially as a musician and some stuff about my book...and yeah, it's pretty funny...and pretty humiliating in parts, but life's all about balance! It's a pretty long interview, but check it out if you have time and forward it to young, aspiring artists who may appreciate it.
