PR: Indie Rapper Man of War Launches War Records

The Former Syntax Recording Artist Builds an Army of Future Hip-Hop Stars

San Diego, CA - After a brief hiatus from the hip-hop spotlight, Man of War returns with his own label, War Records. He spent the last few years touring, recording and finding new talent that's ready to impact urban listenership.

"They are humble, God-fearing artists," Man of War says. "It's unrestricted Christian music with a rugged line. God is woven into the lyrics."

As an artist on the San Diego-based label Syntax Records, Man of War was already at the top of his game with albums like 10 Horn Daggers and Love and War . He toured all across the U.S. and as far as the Cayman Islands, ministering and performing in prisons, on stages and everywhere in between. With all his success on the Syntax label, he felt the call branch out on his own.

"I developed relationships with dope emcees and producers all over... it was time to build a strong family - not just a label, but something that was more than contracts and statistics," he says. "I called my peeps and shared my vision. It was simple. 'Let's come together and create music for our God.'"

The Californian rapper credits his time with Syntax as the training ground he needed to launch his own label.

"Man of War is one of the hardest working emcees I know," says Syntax Records President Tim Trudeau. "It's exciting to be working with him again. War Records is going to fill that niche of left-field intelligent underground hip hop that has been bone dry lately."

"I enjoy the process of pouring into artists," Man of War adds. "It's discipleship. I get to sow into their music, ministry and grow creativity. It's not just a business. I'm doing what I should do: fulfilling God's will."

On War Records, fans of Man of War will see him take the crazy flows they are used to and make them digestible to a wider audience. The first release, Waging War , will feature exclusive new music from his never-before-heard crew of War recording artists. Dropping March 1, the compilation record is a blend of hip-hop, soul and R&B music showcasing the array of talent that War Records has to offer and is available for pre-order at iTunes now, http://bit.ly/dENAMG .

Syntax Distribution, a division of Quality Junk, is one of the top independent digital distributors and aggregators representing more than 25,000 songs. Zion I & The Grouch Ready Sophomore Album & Tour

Heroes In The Healing Of A Nation Tour To Raise Money For Charities Nationwide

(February 2011 - Brooklyn, NY) West Coast hip-hop stalwarts Zion I & The Grouch return with their sophomore collaborative LP, Heroes In The Healing Of The Nation. The album, which is the follow-up to the group's critically acclaimed Heroes In The City Of Dope released in 2006, will be released March 22, 2011. Zion I & The Grouch, known for addressing weighty issues in their respective careers, will donate 100% of all ticketing fees sold through ZioniAndTheGrouch.com to local community organizations in each of the tour's 24 cities.

Zion I & The Grouch have been leaders marching to the beat of their own 808's for some time now, but with Heroes In The Healing Of The Nation the trio suggest that we're all cut from the same cloth. "Anyone changing other people's lives for the better is a hero to me," explains The Grouch of the album’s title. "People are going through a difficult transition these days," adds Zumbi. "We want this album to aid in that process."

With Zion I producer Amp Live providing the bulk of the beats for the album, Zumbi and The Grouch are at their lyrical finest, pontificating the ups and downs of everyday life. In addition to Amp Live contributing a rare vocal performance on "Healing Of The Nation," the trio bring a variety of collaborators into the mix, as Heroes in the Healing of the Nation features an array of musical brethren, including Freeway, Fashawn, Casual, Mystic, Eric of Rebelution, Jacob Hemphill of Soja, Eligh, Marty James, Los Rakas, Codany Holiday, and the R.O.D Project.

To coincide with the forthcoming album, Zion I & The Grouch are excited to announce their upcoming tour, Heroes In The Healing Of The Nation. The nationwide tour, featuring opening acts Blu, The Jacka, and The Shotgun Wedding Quintet, will kick off March 19 at the historic Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, hitting 24-cities before winding down at the end of April. As part of the tour, Zion I & The Grouch have decided to partner with a number of charities in each city, and will donate 100% of all ticketing fees sold through ZioniAndTheGrouch.com to the local community organizations. "Touching people with our music is the main thing we can do," explains The Grouch of the motive behind the donations, "but contributing in a monetary way is taking things to the next level."

The Beat Generation 10th Anniversary Collection

Mixed and Compiled by DJ Spinna & Mr Thing

Label: BBE

Release Date: March 29, 2011

CD / Double Vinyl / Digital

Over the course of nine albums in the 2000s - for their producer-led Beat Generation Series - BBE adopted an unusual stance towards their artists…“Do what you want.” The label’s enormously liberal approach was the antithesis of stiff major record label A&R practices, their forward thinking rewarded handsomely by a truly diverse set of albums from some of the world’s most capable hip-hop architects. Among those picked to contribute were Golden Era greats (Marley Marl; Jazzy Jeff); acclaimed DJ/producers whose work habitually blurred genre lines (King Britt; DJ Spinna; Madlib); and those whose regular gigs didn’t afford them the creative freedom they craved (Will.i.am).

No-one made better use of the brief than Jay Dee, who’s inspired Welcome 2 Detroit showed that despite all the techno and soul that seeped into and out of the Motor City there was still room to be influenced by the Carpenters and Sergio Mendes. Pete Rock, the hip-hop producer’s producer, filled his rapturously received PeteStrumentals disc with classic sample-led tracks packed with drama and finesse. DJ Jazzy Jeff’s The Magnificent celebrated the slew of Philly talent at his A Touch Of Jazz studios, Jill Scott guesting on an exalted Roy Ayers cover in finale. Then there was veteran cellist and arranger Larry Gold, on hiatus from adding strings to hits like Brandy and Monica’s ‘The Boy Is Mine’, who called upon fellow seasoned pros McFadden and Whitehead and Bunny Sigler for his piece of the puzzle.

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of this cult series BBE enlisted the services of two of its stalwart associates and compilers to create a Double Mix CD featuring the best and most popular tracks from the nine albums recorded for the series. DJ Spinna - (Beat Generation contributor and compiler of several compilations on BBE ) and DJ Mr Thing - former Scratch Pervert and DMC winner. For Digital customers they will be able to download a bonus mix by a Chris Read - UK Mixtape Maestro/ BBC 1 Xtra.

It’s all here…an epic compilation…press play and give it up for the Beat Generation.

BBE releases The Beat Generation 10th Anniversary Collection on March 29, 2011
