From Dan Roof:

Video: Kevin Rudolf - "Ferraris & Helicopters" Part 1

"Hey man, I grew up in New York City," said Kevin Rudolf whose new web series is entitled "Ferraris & Helicopeters". "I could be on the subway standing next to the Mayor and I wouldn't know it. New York is about minding your own business, doing your own thing." Currently, Rudolf is in the process of completing a new album. "I moved back to New York, got back to basics, shut the door and started working by myself again," he said. "I had done the whole LA thing. New York just brings out a different side of me...more edgy and raw. I can't wait for people hear this album. They're going to be surprised."

Adam Yauch (MCA) of the Beastie Boys Dead at 47

MCAFrom RollingStone.com

Adam Yauch, one-third of the pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 47, Rolling Stone has learned. Yauch, also known as MCA, had been in treatment for cancer since 2009. The rapper was diagnosed in 2009 after discovering a tumor in his salivary gland.

Yauch sat out the Beastie Boys' induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his treatments delayed the release of the group's most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2. The Beastie Boys had not performed live since the summer of 2009, and Yauch's illness prevented the group from appearing in music videos for Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.

Yauch co-founded the Beastie Boys with Mike "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz in 1979. The band started off as a hardcore punk group, but soon began experimenting with hip-hop. The band broke big with their first proper album, Licensed to Ill, in 1986, and further albums Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication cemented the band as a true superstar act.

In addition to his career with the Beastie Boys, Yauch was heavily involved in the movement to free Tibet and co-organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts of the late Nineties. Yauch was also directed many of the Beastie Boys' music videos under the pseudonym Nathaniel Horblower. In 2002, he launched the film production company Oscilloscope Laboratories.

MP3: Casual (Hieroglyphics) - "Rock My Shit"

From Audible Treats:

MP3: Casual (Hieroglyphics) - "Rock My Shit"

Last month, Hieroglyphics rapper Casual announced that his new album, He Still Think He Raw, will be released on May 22nd. The album is produced entirely by DJ Fresh & The Whole Shabang, and is a sequel of sorts to Casual's 2001 album, He Think He Raw. To go along with that announcement, Casual released the first single and visual for HSTHR, "Tears." Today, Casual is excited to release the second single off the project, "Rock My Shit."

"Rock My Shit" serves as the opening track from He Still Think He Raw, and for an album with such a bold title, the song offers an equally powerful mission statement. DJ Fresh delivers an assorted collection of plucked and washed out synths, each raining down atop 808 claps and thundering kicks, for a beat that, according to Casual, inspired the Hiero rapper's direction on the song. "It was DJ Fresh's beat," says Casual, "that inspired the 'mean mug' style on this song."

Accompanying the song, Casual took some time recently to sit down and discuss his forthcoming album, break down what it was like working with DJ Fresh, discuss his recent video for "Tears," and more. Watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwIlbJSQ1RU .

MP3: Stik Figa - "Medicine"

From Mello Music Group:

MP3: Stik Figa - "Medicine"

In a climate of posturing and pomp, it is refreshing to see an artist like Topeka, Kansas’ Stik Figa unafraid to come As Himself.   After spending years gaining prominence in his hometown and love from the likes of Miles Bonny and Oddisee, Stik Figa steps up to the national stage with his debut Mello Music Group album As Himself.  The album is blue-collar rap, at times somber and at times jovial. There is no hyperbolized varnish here, just the raw grain of Stik’s mental flow.
