PR: Search for Next Great Female Rapper Uncovers Ugly Truth

From Carey S:

Search for Next Great Female Rapper Uncovers Ugly Truth

S&H Public Relations maintains commitment to find an artist who possesses the X factor.

Los Angeles, April 2011 – S&H Public Relations is having a hard time finding artists who aren’t fixated on themes of sex and over-the-top materialism.  Last month, the agency launched a campaign to find the next great female rapper.  The national talent search, which started in March to celebrate Women’s History Month, was launched to find a female rap artist who embodies style, substance, and character.  What has come as a result is far from what was expected.

S&H Public Relations’ co-founder Sebastien Elkouby says, “These rappers think that the only way to compete in this industry is to sell sex.  In a way, they’re correct if all they’re interested in is 15 minutes of fame.  But what we’re looking for is someone who has what it takes to make a long term impact.”  Taking Lauryn Hill as an example, S&H is looking for an artist who has the potential to be the voice of a generation.  Elkouby adds, “Regardless of Lauryn’s personal struggles over the years, the bar she set when she was at her peak still applies to what a rapper can be today.”

S&H Public Relations is extending its April 15 deadline to May 15 to give artists a chance to submit their best work.  Co-founder, Carey Harris says, “Someone recently told me that our standards are too high.  Why wouldn’t we aim for the stars?  The right person is out there somewhere.”

For details and information, artists are encouraged to visit S&H Public Relations at www.SNHPR.com and click on Talent Search.  Candidates are encouraged to send their links and copyrighted music to info@SNHPR.com.

About S&H Public Relations

S&H Public Relations is a Los Angeles - based company dedicated to promoting Hip Hop artists and culture. We pride ourselves on working with artists who aim to push Hip Hop music forward.  We believe that many talented Hip Hop artists, usually referred to as “underground”, are often overlooked due to lack of resources.  S&H’s goal is to provide affordable public relations services to quality artists who are looking to receive greater exposure.

Please Listen To My DEMOS Mixtape Contest

In promotion of the upcoming documentary film, DEMOS: An Independent Artist’s Guide To Success, we will be releasing a series of mixtapes showcasing the talents of independent artists around the world.  The mixtapes will serve two purposes: to add awareness to the upcoming film and to promote the independent artists who make it onto the mixtape. That’s where this contest comes in… WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR DEMO. This is your chance to become a part of something that we hope will go down in hip hop history as being one of the illest music documentaries to be released in recent times.

To enter the contest, you must be an independent artist (meaning not currently signed to a major label). Send us ONE SONG via the form below. Yes, just one song… so pick your best one. Please upload your song in mp3 format to hulkshare prior to filling out the below form.

Deadline is April 30th. Mixtape will be released in May.

[Visit KevinNottingham.com for the upload form, available at http://kevinnottingham.com/2011/04/08/please-listen-to-my-demos-mixtape-contest/]

About the Film:

DEMOS is a documentary film intended to educate and inspire emerging music artists by providing insight on ways to establish and further their careers. Narrated by Grammy award-winning hip hop poet J Ivy, DEMOS features an eclectic mix of industry veterans, established artists such as Talib Kweli, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, DJ Quik, Naughty by Nature, Mac 10, Marley Marl, Rapper Big Pooh, Da Beatminerz, Jean Grae, Statik Selektah, DJ Rhettmatic, Shyheim, Dwele, and up-and-coming artists like Mac Miller, J Davey, Wax, and Dumbfoundead.

With over 70 interviews (and still shooting), DEMOS features interviews with professionals from all sides of the music industry sharing experiences, advice and techniques for maximizing success in the music business. From understanding contracts, to brand management, music production, touring, merchandise, royalties, record labels, content distribution, and more, DEMOS is designed to transfer a comprehensive mix of industry and music knowledge to enhance the quality of life for those who live in a musical world.

Up to this point, we have been able to make the film with very little money.  As the film goes into post-production we have found that we need to raise funds to help complete the film and put it out properly.  We’ve been shooting for the past 6 months and much of the film is shot, but there are a few scenes for which we need to secure funding in order to produce. Additionally, we need money for sound mixing, color correction, graphics, other post-production needs, distribution to festivals and marketing.

To assist in raising the funds needed, we have put up a Kickstarter page.  If you are interested in seeing this film get a proper release, we humbly ask for your donation. If enough money is raised, we hope to be able to screen the film as early as this fall in select cities around the U.S. Check the video below from Executive Producer and Creator Kareem Fort, Co-Writer/Producer Hassahn Phenomenon, and Director/Editor Matt Friedman.

A.M. Breakups teams up with Billy Woods (Super Chron Flight Brothers) for a brand new single off the upcoming Cowardly Threats & Hideous Cruelty mixtape. "Good Times Had By All" features the Utica producer at his most subdued, a rainy day dreariness that perfectly matches the dark humor of Woods' bitter verses. The flip side of the track is Breakups' spectacular remix of the Super Chron Flight Brothers "42nd St." off the duo's critically-acclaimed LP, Cape Verde. This is Breakups at his uptempo best, the meticulously layered beat shifting beneath itself but perfectly couching the fast-paced 70's concept of the original track. The song features the Super Chron Flight Brothers along with Wu-Tang's Lord Superb (Supreme Clientele), HiCoup and Pastense. For those of you who haven't checked out this kid's debut album, The Cant Resurrection, which Backwoodz Studioz dropped last week, hopefully now you have one more good reason to stop sleeping.
