Coalmine Records Presents - Can You Dig It? (4.19.11)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Apr 09, 2011 – In celebration of Coamline Records five year anniversary, the Brooklyn-based indie is pleased to present you with their latest offering, Can You Dig It?  This digital only, full-length compilation contains 15 tracks of the label’s singles catalog that has spanned over the past five years.  Can You Dig It? boasts an impressive song roster from artists signed to the boutique label, in addition to a noteworthy line-up of guest features, both of which represent a wide brush-stroke of today’s underground hip-hop scene.  Featured artists include El Da Sensei, Heltah Skeltah, Evidence, Saigon, Inspectah Deck, Bekay, Skyzoo, Supernatural, Big Noyd, Brown Bag AllStars, Torae, Custom Made & more!

From Coalmine’s 2005 inaugural 12-inch release of the “The Raw”, to El Da Sensei’s lead album single “Knowledge Be The Key” (featuring Rakaa Iriscience), Can You Dig It? is a testimony to Coalmine’s vow to provide quality, buzz-worthy records to the masses.

Matt Diamond, C.E.O. of Coalmine Records makes the following statement regarding the release of the anniversary compilation.  “I decided to compile this release for two reasons.  For starters, it’s only right to release a compilation that best represents the quality, buzz-worthy music that we’ve released over the greater part of the past decade.  The second reason is a bit more personal; this release is an ode to the single.  For many artists and labels, the 12-inch single represents a humble beginning.  Consider Def Jam’s inaugural ‘dorm room’ release of the single “It’s Yours” from T La Rock & Jazzy Jay.  For others, it may signify a come back or fresh start, as was the case with Pharoahe Monch’s transition into solo artist stardom with his hit single “Simon Says” off Internal Affairs.  For all of us, it represents the epitome of what we have to offer musically.”

Can You dig It? embodies the essence of the 12-inch single, bundled for consumption as a 15 track digital-only release.  We invite you to take a walk with us through the past five years and familiarize yourself with our singles catalog.  On behalf of Coalmine Records, I can assure you – there’s much more to come…” Diamond concludes.

As Coalmine Records continues to gain momentum into the second decade of the millennium, the burgeoning indie provides a thorough overview of their past and current catalog, while giving you a glimpse into their promising future with Can You Dig It?

Video: Murs - "Varsity Blues" (prod. Aesop Rock)

Fresh off this year's edition of his annual Paid Dues festival, Los Angeles rapper Murs presents the six-song Varsity Blues 2 EP, the sequel to 2002's first installment. Murs (just about) kicks drugs and alcohol, pulls a gun on the 'other guy', dedicates one song to a dead love, another to a lost groupie, and ends by breaking clean with maybe his toughest habit, Los Angeles. Varsity Blues 2 is the sound of a young man strangling his weaknesses one by one, only to discover that nobody gets them all. Production by Aesop Rock, Terrace Martin, Issue, Foudnation, Karl Berringer and Droop-E.

Brooklyn Rapper 5Mics Is The "Hungriest N*gga Alive"

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r39A-tEv9HM .

Brooklyn rap juggernaut 5Mics is excited to unveil his official rocking music video "Hungriest N*gga Alive", presented by 5 Fingers Music Group. The video was directed by WorldStarHipHop.com's video team Street Heat and was shot in Brooklyn, New York.

The Rock-inspired track "Hungriest N*gga Alive" showcases 5Mics unfulfilled hunger for more in the Hip-Hop game, not tired of pushing boundaries by mixing a Rock edge sound with his lyrical sharpness while delivering vivid rhymes and smooth flows.

Being a feared battle rapper with skillful wordplay and witty metaphors, 5Mics earned his name in the underground shortly after he entered the Hip-Hop game in 2000. Having successfully worked with heavyweights such as DJ Kay Slay, Shyheim, Lil Wayne and being featured in The Source, Drahma Magazine, and Yo! Raps, 5Mics' passion and dedication makes him stand in a league of his own.

Recently, the real 5Mics witnessed that a rapper of the same name entered the stage of Hip-Hop in 2008, signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle, years after the original 5Mics commercially started his Rap career. Now, the time has come to air out who's real and who's fake.

Combining an immense amount of raw talent and amazing showmanship, 5Mics will prove to the world that there can only be one 5Mics. Respect his grind and join the movement at www.facebook.com/5mics09 .
