Houston's Lil O Announced Spring Drop of New Album
Every city has its legends. Those artists that outlast the fads, weather the trends and throughout, deliver music that is hungrily devoured by their fans. Lil O is one of those guys.
Lil O's career began with a single featuring a then up-and-coming Destiny's Child, "Can't Stop" which he dropped off at the studio of the legendary DJ Screw. Impressed with what he heard, Screw invited Lil O back to the lab just hours after the single had been dropped off. Later, as a member of the infamous Screwed Up Click, O would go on to wreck Screw tapes alongside the rest of Houston's finest game spitters, all the while establishing himself as one of the city's most consistent hitmakers.
Since then there have been classic albums like "Blood Money", "Fat Rat Wit Da Cheese" and "Food On Tha Table", a slew of mixtapes ranking among Houston's best and a few major label situations that simply didn't serve O's best interest. Over a decade later, Lil O is still standing, still recording and still delivering hits that satisfy both his immense street following and the demands of PD's everywhere.
Next up for Lil O is "Grind Hard, Pray Harder" which he will drop on his own label, Bar None Entertainment this Spring. It's lead single, "None Of Ya Bizzness" featuring Slim Thug, is a musical warning shot to nosey people; friends and foes alike. The streets love it and it's beginning to pick up steam at radio around the Southwest. The song is also available via iTunes.
Fans unable to wait for the album can download its precursor, "The Flood 1.5" mixtape Lil O dropped recently as a warm-up. The already-classic tape is available for free download via http://tweetmysong.com/584w1z .
Brooklyn Artist Releases Handpicked Tracks From Year Long Song-A-Day Project
One new song everyday for a year.
This is the ambitious project that Ace Reporter took on in 2010: writing and recording an original track every 24 hours. The threesixfive project is inspiring in its scope and spans the sonic spectrum from raw acoustic whispers to rambunctious rootsy rock to eclectic electro-sizzles and everywhere in between. "The project was all about my personal relationship to music," says Ace. "My goal was to focus on creativity at the expense of polish - last-minute panic never felt so good."
With a library of songs 365 deep, Ace Reporter is in the process of releasing a series of free EPs that showcase various handpicked tracks from the threesixfive project. The Untouched and Arrived EP hit speakers in December 2010 and highlighted Ace's repertoire for all things rock. January 2011 saw the release of the Lean Honey Lean EP, a five song offering that accentuated Ace's electro-stylings. While preparations for February 2nd's acoustically adorned Sleepyhead EP are underway, Ace is taking a moment to reflect on a favorite song from the project, "Untouched and Arrived." The title track from the first EP finds buoyant guitar work and handclaps fusing with lyrics dripping from the intoxication of wanderlust and wonderment. "I wrote 'Untouched' right after returning from a trip to a post-earthquake Chile," reports Ace. "I got home to Brooklyn and had this sense of how lucky and surreal my life here is. That's what the song is for me – this joyful celebration of being home." Download "Untouched and Arrived" and begin your auditory adventure with Ace Reporter today.
In 1986 a young Ace Reporter (also born as Chris Snyder) saw Itzhak Perlman playing violin on Sesame Street and became enamored with the world of classical music. A few years later, Ace landed his first gig as a singer as the boy soprano on the soundtrack for The Crow. His voice appeared in dozens of movies, TV shows and commercials throughout the course of the next several years. An electric guitar and a creative spark led Ace from recording tracks in his garage to forming The States in 2002, a band he spent 7 years with, releasing 3 albums and playing over 300 shows. With The States on permanent hiatus, the threesixfive project was born in Brooklyn in 2010 and can be found in its entirety at http://www.myacereporter.com/ .
Los Angeles, California, January 2011 – Detroit-based producer Apollo Brown is giving his time to the students of the Global Awareness through Hip Hop Culture Program, the nation’s first full time educational Hip Hop program for middle and high school students. Since 2006, the Los Angeles program has been using Hip Hop culture and Rap music as a medium to helps students develop a sense of global awareness and critical thinking skills.
In early December 2010, program founder Sebastien Elkouby gave his students the task of writing lyrics to random Hip Hop instrumentals found on Youtube. As a fan of Apollo Brown, Elkouby recommended some of the producer’s music to his students. They reacted so enthusiastically that Elkouby decided to contact Apollo and his team to let them know that a group of students almost 2000 miles away was writing to his music. Elkouby didn’t expect the response. “Apollo’s team offered to have him reach out to the students through Skype,” he says. “Apollo reached out to me personally and provided me with more instrumentals to give students. We decided to have the students use their Christmas break to finish writing and prepare to perform their songs for him via Skype. The students are extremely excited.” Elkouby adds, “Hip Hop artists are often negatively portrayed in the mainstream media. Apollo proves that artists give back when given the opportunity to do so. Hopefully, the media can show the positive side of Hip Hop.”
As for his involvement with the program, Apollo Brown says, “When I first heard about the program I thought it was unbelievable that Hip Hop was being taught in the schools. I was also extremely excited that my music was being used as part the curriculum. It actually gave me inspiration and a certain encouragement that real Hip Hop has a chance with the younger listeners. I'm definitely eager to talk with the students and learn how my music has affected them in any way and can't wait to hear what each student was inspired to write. I just want them to be open to all kinds of music and not just what they hear on the radio and/or see on TV. Being well rounded is important, even within a specific genre.”
The Global Awareness through Hip Hop Culture program is currently in its 5th year. Apollo Brown’s Skype session is schedule to take place by the end of January 2011.

Machina Muerte CEO Partners With Wavves Drummer For First Single From New Album
Rapper Isaiah Toothtaker is prepping the release of his latest album, Illuminati Thug Mafia, to be released January 25th through a partnership with Toothtaker's own Machina Muerte label and Alpha Pup Records. With Wavves drummer Jacob Safari behind the board, the two flip 2010 internet phenomenon Antoine Dodson’s “Bed Intruder” song upside down. Eschewing the ringtone-y iTunes version for North Carolina A&T’s marching band’s interpretation, Toothtaker and Safari concoct a flurry of horn stabs, soaring sirens, and bullet-ridden rolling percussion that hit like a jab from Toothtaker himself. The song provides a perfectly dark soundscape to match Isaiah’s menacing lyrics and his gruesomely NSFW video.
"Intruder" is the debut single from Isaiah Toothtaker's newest album Illuminati Thug Mafia which is set for release on January 25th via Machina Muerte/Alpha Pup. Run and tell that, homeboy.
Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona in a broken home, Isaiah Toothtaker was kicked out at age 11 and quickly learned to defend himself, often resorting to violence. Throughout his violent young adulthood, Isaiah relied on music to identify with and it provided the soundtrack to his teenage antics of stealing cassettes and walkmans and riding the public transport all city to tag, battle rap, sell dime bags and acid tabs, and fist fight. He began tattooing under the tutelage of the local Hells Angels, leading him to open his own parlor, STARING WITHOUT CARING, which has won numerous Best in City awards over the years. Throughout all the trouble, Isaiah has been able to duck or beat charges, until recently, when he landed multiple violent felonies on record. Built from misery and built to destroy, he has since co-founded the label Machina Muerte with Mestizo, the duo also forming the group HUMASUIT. Since 2001, Isaiah has independently released one EP and three full-length albums (one with rapper Murs) and his forthcoming album Illuminati Thug Mafia will be available January 25, 2011 via Machina Muerte/Alpha Pup Records.
