MP3: Has-Lo - "Black Rose (GumShoe Remix)"

Mello Music Group is preparing the release of Has-Lo's full length album "In Case I Don't Make It" dropping March 29th.  Upon first hearing Has-Lo, I was really impressed by his music, and hopefully you feel the same.

Today, check out Has-Lo's "Black Rose - GumShoe Remix."  The original version of "Black Rose" appeared on MMG's "Helpless Dreamer" and the remix is now provided by Culture I.  "Black Rose" is an exercise in storytelling, and is basically a Noir detective story on wax, thus the "GumShoe Remix."

Enjoy the free mp3 download for Has-Lo's "Black Rose - GumShoe Remix" and feel free to post and share.

PR: Fat Beats Announces Pop-Up Shop Saturday, March 5th

Fat Beats Re-Opens Doors At Brooklyn Warehouse To Launch Monthly Pop-Up Shop

(March 3, 2011 - Brooklyn, NY) Fat Beats Records is excited to announce that they will be opening the doors of their Warehouse, located at 110 Bridge Street in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, from 12:00pm to 8:00pm this Saturday, March 5th for the first of what will be a monthly Pop-Up Shop record store and music celebration. Helping to celebrate the pop-up shop and in-store will be DJ Spinna, DJ Evil Dee, and Rich Medina, in addition to a number of surprise guests throughout the day. Recreated to capture the atmosphere of the original retail stores, the event will give hip-hop heads an opportunity to come together, celebrate, and support independent hip-hop once again.

This past September marked a somber moment for hip-hop fans worldwide, when Fat Beats Records closed the doors of its final two retail locations in New York and Los Angeles. Since opening in 1994, hip-hop fans have traveled from far and wide to visit the iconic Manhattan and Los Angeles stores, in addition to locations in Atlanta, Amsterdam, and Tokyo, all of which had been shuttered in recent years. At the time of the closing, DJ Premier, who helped celebrate the store's final send-off, said, "The closing of Fat Beats is just like one of my friends passing away. They promoted vinyl at its highest degree for the culture of good music and that makes it more difficult to say goodbye."

For Fat Beats Records found Joe Abajian aka DJ Jab the closing of the final two locations was a bittersweet moment. Sad to shut down the stores, in doing so Abajian knew it would allow Fat Beats to embark on new and exciting opportunities, including the Pop-Up Shop at the label and distribution company's Brooklyn Warehouse. "With Fat Beats Brooklyn," explains Abajian, "I wanted to give people the physical hip-hop experience that you got when visiting one of the Fat Beats stores."

From Audible Treats:

MP3: Kyle Rapps - "Rent Remix" Feat. KRS-One

Second Single From Re-Edutainment Details Struggles Of High Rent, Incompetent Landlords

The Song:

As Kyle Rapps continues to prep his debut EP, the New Jersey-born, Harlem-based emcee is treating fans with the second official single "Rent Remix," which features the legendary KRS-One. The track is a fitting collaboration seeing as Kyle Rapps' forthcoming EP, Re-Edutainment is his own take on the now classic Boogie Down Productions album, Edutainment, released over 20 years ago. "Being able to meet and vibe with my favorite rapper of all time was a dream come true," explains Rapps.

Produced by Kev Brown - as is the full EP, using only the samples and dusty loops utilized on the original BDP album - the "Rent Remix" flips a deep and ominous guitar sample, as Rapps offers listeners a vivid account of substandard living conditions and overpriced housing. "I got tired of landlords trying to take advantage - especially in this economy," says Kyle in speaking on the inspiration behind the song. His sentiments are matched by the power of his words as he raps, "Work 3 jobs, my pockets still tight/ I deserve an apartment that ain't got no mice/ Hot days, cold nights/ Roaches, broke pipes, this won't stop without a fight" KRS, who also appeared on the original version of the track, follows with an equally poignant verse, emphasized by his unmistakably forceful baritone as he depicts the daily struggle of dealing with incompetent landlords.

Kyle Rapps' debut EP, Re-Edutainment, produced entirely by Kev Brown and featuring Joell Ortiz, KRS-One, and U-N-I will drop on March 29th.

Download "Rent Remix" here: http://media.audibletreats.com/Kyle_Rapps-Rent_Rmx_Ft_KRSOne.mp3 .

The Background:

With his roots firmly planted in concept driven hip-hop, Kyle Rapps exhibits witty and youthful yet insightful and catchy music. Under the moniker Black Skeptik, Kyle Rapps formed the acclaimed underground hip-hop group, Thought Breakers, who saw success opening up for such acts as Wyclef Jean, Fat Joe, Talib Kweli and Dead Prez, in addition to independently selling over 10,000 copies of their album, Episode One. More recently he released "Rent" ft KRS-One and "Frankenstein Saves Hip Hop (prod. Blockhead & video feat. Crazy Legs of The Rock Steady Crew)" under the same name. Solidifying a more positive out look on things, he changed his name to Kyle Rapps and release a third single, "Love, Love" (Featuring KRS-One and Homeboy Sandman), which reached #1 on the college radio hip-hop charts. Now, Rapps, eager to show people the benefits of combining hip-hop with education, is set to release his debut EP, RE-Edutainment in March, 2011.

RAPTOR IS THE FUTURE
Enter Raptor. Producer, rapper, musician. Raptor has been a best kept secret until now. You may have heard him guest on the odd track. You have definitely heard his production work.

Raptor is the latest member of the Dcypha Productions family helmed by one of the UK's finest; Sway. Some Bad Advice has original production form Raptor, features Sway both on production and vocals as well as freestyles over Chase N Status, J Dilla, Star Slinger and Magnetic Man tracks.
