From Greg Miller:

'Best of DJ Khalil' - The Grammy Edition

Los Angeles based hip-hop producer DJ Khalil teams up with Crooks & Castles clothing to release a compilation of extraordinary work on Best of DJ Khalil - The Grammy Edition. Khalil had a remarkable 2010 producing four records on Eminem's critically acclaimed and Grammy winning album, Recovery as well as the lead single, "Kush", off of Dr. Dre's highly anticipated final album Detox.  Already an accomplished producer, Khalil has worked with an impressive roster of heavy hitters (Jay Z, Drake, Snoop, Rick Ross, Game, Pink, Nas) and continues to push the boundaries of his music making talents in 2011, working with new artists outside his typical hip-hop genre. Not only does DJ Khalil produce tracks for multi-platinum selling artists, but he also has had his hand on music production for many popular video game titles including EA Sports Fight Night Championship 4, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and 50 Cent's Blood on the Sand.

MP3: Marc Antoni - "Minor Setbacks (Freestyle)"

From J. Melo:

MP3: Marc Antoni - "Minor Setbacks (Freestyle)"

A real emcee from the east coast, Marc has some incredible talent. His forthcoming "Overnight" EP will be entirely produced by The Trackslayerz (T.I. "I'm Back") and J Cardim (Joe Budden, etc). Features will come from Laws, Smoke DZA, Theo Martins and more.

"Overnight" (EP) will be hosted by DJBooth as they were wow'ed by his talent when we submitted it to them.

Here goes a little appetizer before the EP arrives. The perfect introduction to his rhyming ability, Marc Antoni attacks Jay-Z's "Dead Presidents" instrumental on his own take, "Minor Setbacks." Enough talk, let the music speak for itself.

About The 808 Experiment

The 808 Experiment is an annual compilation produced entirely by SMKA. In just three years the series has become a popular, and anticipated, project in the hip-hop community. The strength of the series rests on the range of the artists, as well as the quality and variety of the music. What started – in 2008 – as a local mixtape (Winner of Creative Loafing’s Best Local Mixtape of the Year) to highlight Atlanta MC’s, The 808 Experiment quickly expanded to incorporate talented artists from all across the US. With so many talented artists throughout the hip-hop community, we felt the project would suffer if we limited ourselves to one city. Each year we hope to work with a new group of artists who are among the most talented in their respective areas. The 808 Experiment: Vol 3 is the continued evolution of the series, and this year we wanted to showcase a cross section of hip-hop. The free compilation features nearly 40 different artists, and truly demonstrates the range and talent of producer 808 Blake of SMKA.

Brooklyn Singer Releases Fourth EP From Song-a-Day Project

The EP:

Arcadia: a place where everything is perfect and nothing ever happens.

Brooklyn artist Ace Reporter is back and excited to offer listeners auditory escape with the Arcadia EP. The EP is the fourth and final in a series of releases showcasing handpicked tracks from the multi-faceted singer's threesixfive project, a dauntingly industrious project that found Ace writing and recording an original song for the entirety of 2010. Where most may have taken a sonic sabbatical after such an arduous challenge, Ace has not only spent the infancy of 2011 re-mastering and re-imagining threesixfive tracks, but also recently played a triumphant debut show at Brooklyn's Cameo Gallery. Three more shows in the NYC area are on the horizon including an April 21st release party for the Arcadia EP at The Delancey.

The journey to Arcadia begins with the hypnotic guitar strums of the title track that steadily sashay into a cascading collection of vocals and instrumentation. "The song," explains Ace, "is about movement without change. It's about being in a place of infinite naïveté." The garden party of "Arcadia" makes its way into the forests of Manhattan in "Stick To", where a distorted organ serves as the undercurrent for a track infused with the energy of a NYC night. Arcadia continues with a succession of coast to coast collaborations – Brooklyn's Swingset Committee (facebook.com/pages/Swingset-Committee/60479339076) serve up a kinetic storm of synthesizers on their infectious remix of "Lean Honey Lean", and left coast compatriots Barbara (www.wearebarbara.com) transform "The World Is On Fire" into an electro anthem from the future. "Pelican" finds Ace channeling his inner Thom Yorke as he battles a vocoder and a shadowy beat concocted by frequent collaborator Chris Kuklis. The digital release of the Arcadia EP also features a re-imagining of Arcade Fire's "We Used to Wait", where soaring violins effortlessly interlace with Ace's disarming vocals. Download the EP for free today and join Ace Reporter on his voyage to Arcadia.
