British hip-hop's new golden boy, DELS, is celebrating the recent release of his album, GOB, by releasing his new song, "Capsize," to radio, and is accompanying that release with a brand new mini-documentary, filmed at Fortress Studios and shot and edited by Yemi Bamiro, that highlights the making of the song.
For the song, DELS teamed up again with Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, and brought on renowned London MC Roots Manuva, who DELS has wanted to work with for a while. "Growing up as a teenager back home in Ipswich, I was always a fan of his music," explains DELS in the mini-documentary. "For him to be featured on my record is a massive, massive deal for me. It just made me feel that much more confident about my album." For Roots Manuva, the feelings were mutual. "After seeing him perform I was like, 'This guy's on another tip... this guy's got more of the package'," says Roots. "So I said to him, 'Let's link and do something together. Not necessarily something for a record company, let's just get on a beat together or something!"
With an epic brass introduction to match the equally epic trio, "Capsize" is a heavy track with thick verses and a fuzzy big-band production. Dealing with the eternal struggle between the youth and everybody else, the track is conscious but still has the potential to, as Joseph Patterson of MTV's The Wrap-Up described it, "have you looking like the Churchill dog" while listening to it. Along with DELS' twangy British flow and Roots Manuva's instantly recognizable tone, Joe Goddard's deadpan delivery of the cautionary hook, "Times they are so treacherous, we need to stick together/ Now the nights are closing in, we need to stick together," gives the song an unsteady feel.
Omniscient returns with another stunning music videos, but this one is only a tease for his next single "Money Comes (Money Goes)"Ft. M-1 of Dead Prez. Once again Adam Rush does a brilliant job in providing the visual art to this Miami Beat Wave production. The Social Work LP is out now on iTunes. http://bit.ly/bHehMf.
Snoop Dogg's Label to Present "West Coast Block Starz II"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- German-American digital label Block Starz Music LLC, www.blockstarzmusic.com, has announced it will partner with West Coast music legend and Pop icon Snoop Dogg's new Dogg Town Music Group to present the second installment of its critically-acclaimed "West Coast Block Starz II" compilation this fall.
Block Starz Music first connected with Snoop Dogg's newly-formed label after Dogg Town's CEO and head of A&R, Shatto Brown, signed Lebanese-American vocal artist Lynda Sayyah, who is also featured on the "She Got Next 2011" EP available from Block Starz Music on June 21.
"We were talking to Shatto about [Dogg Town artist] Poppa Heat, when the idea came up to collaborate on a 'West Coast Block Starz II'," says Block Starz Music Co-Founder and President Bayer Mack. "Everything we do at Block Starz Music is designed to raise awareness about exciting new independent artists and music. Snoop Dogg is a West Coast icon with global recognition. It sounded like a match made in Hollywood."
Mixed by world-renown DJ Clinton Sparks and released in late 2008, "West Coast Block Starz", which is now available for free download to all @BlockStarz Twitter followers, was Block Starz Music's debut compilation and gave various featured "New West" artists like Fashawn, J. Doe, Roscoe Umali, JAG (who later signed to NBA star Carmello Anthony's Larsiny Family), and Mykestro, national exposure.
"With 'West Coast Block Starz', we wanted to vividly illustrate the burgeoning 'New West' movement and its diverse selection of exciting new music talent not yet on the national radar," says Block Starz Music Co-Founder and CEO Kai Denninger of the project's debut. "With this Dogg Town Music collaboration on 'West Coast Block Starz II', we want to introduce listeners to the area's next crop of hot artists."
