And the (Hip-Hop) Winners Are...

Yesterday we let you know who the 2011 Hip-Hop Grammy Award Nominees were. Today it's time to find out who took home those sometimes coveted, sometimes reviled awards and who among the nominees got the shaft. So without further adieu, scroll down and you'll see the winners highlighted IN BOLD and marked with **** just in case that's too hard to see in your browser of choice.

And the (Hip-Hop) Winners Are...

Best Rap Solo Performance
“Over” – Drake
**** “Not Afraid” – Eminem
“How Low” – Ludacris
“I’m Back” – T.I.
“POWER” – Kanye West
Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group
“Shutterbugg” – Big Boi & Cutty
“Fancy” – Drake, T.I. & Swizz Beatz
**** “On to the Next One” – Jay-Z & Swizz Beatz
“My Chick Bad” – Ludacris & Nicki Minaj
“Lose My Mind” – Young Jeezy & Plies
Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
“Nothin’ on You” – B.o.B Featuring Bruno Mars
“Deuces” – Chris Brown, Tyga & Kevin McCall
“Love the Way You Lie” – Eminem & Rihanna
**** “Empire State of Mind” – Jay-Z & Alicia Keys
“Wake Up! Everybody” – John Legend, The Roots, Melanie Fiona & Common
Best Rap Song
**** “Empire State Of Mind” – Jay-Z & Alicia Keys
“Love the Way You Lie” – Eminem & Rihanna
“Not Afraid” – Eminem
“Nothin’ on You” – B.o.B & Bruno Mars
“On to the Next One” — Jay-Z & Swizz Beatz
Best Rap Album
The Adventures of Bobby Ray – B.o.B
Thank Me Later – Drake
**** Recovery – Eminem
The Blueprint 3 – Jay-Z
How I Got Over – The Roots

So in the end Eminem and Jay-Z clean up at the Grammy Awards, and for a mind-blowing third time The Roots were nominated for Best Rap Album and did not win. IRONICALLY they did leave with two Grammy Awards though - Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for "Hang On In There" and Best R&B Album for "Wake Up!" It's also worth noting that Cee-Lo Green earned a Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for the single "F*ck You!" Those who hope for more recognition for B.o.B, Drake or Big Boi will just have to content themselves with these words from a Geto Boy.

"I sold a lot of records and a lot of people KNOW ME!
Now where's my G*d damn trophy?!!" - Willie D (Geto Boys)

'Omni Colour' will be released February 22, 2011 on Fieldwerk Recordings.

NYC Underground Emcee Creature to Work w/ 2011 Grammy Winner

Music Icon Al Bell (Stax Records and Motown Records) and New York Artistpreneur Creature (Coffee Grind Media) Partner on “Stylemakers-Rulebreakers Music Series” in New York City

The partnership between Bell and Creature will officially be announced at the new Harlem Aloft Hotel located at 2296 Frederick Douglass Avenue New York, NY 10027 on Wednesday February 23rd from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, with special musical performance by young teen rock sensation and NYC’S own Graveshift.

Al Bell received a 2011 GRAMMY® Trustees Award, the highest honor recognizing individuals for outstanding contribution to the music industry in a non-performing capacity.

Bell became a co-owner of Stax Records and grew the company into the second-largest black-owned business of the 70’s. Now at 70, he seems newly invigorated and has discovered New York artistpreneur Siddiq Booker AKA Creature.

After selling more than 12,000 copies of his debut album, “Never Say Die,” directly to fans in less than a year, Creature wrote a book about his “on-the grind” experiences in order to teach the art of independent entrepreneurship in hip-hop, “The Underdog’s Manifesto: A Guerilla Artist’s Path to Independence.” When you acknowledge that this is Creature’s daily routine, it becomes clear that this MC is the perfect example of hip hop grind. Creature hosts a monthly artist showcase call "the Coffee Grind" in Soho for new artist who seek his knowledge from across the globe.

Bell and Creature are partnering to take this live music performance platform to another level. The music series will offer patron’s access to tastemaker events featuring unsigned artists as well as special guest appearances by today’s recognized superstar entertainers and legendary artists. Bell and Booker are creating an “iconoclasts” of creative visionaries whose passion for what they do will transform music culture.

Twice a month a collection of artists will appear before their peers asking for their support and allegiance to a career that can be elevating and deconstruct in the same breath. While several hundred may witness it in person, millions around the world may capture the visual spectacle through virtual realization by many derivatives of electronic media.
