Video: DJ JS-1 - "Last To Know" Ft. Tonedeff

Dropping the first music video from his soon-to-be released and highly anticipated album, No One Cares, DJ JS-1 continues to showcases his finely tuned production and scratching skills with "Last To Know." At its core, this track has JS-1 venting deep frustrations about trying to discern what's best for his career, considering there is always a plethora of figures who are ready to shell out advice: armchair A&R's, well-meaning friends, and plenty of over-eager fans among them. Keeping things light, though, the music video for the track, is a humorous one, with JS-1 flexing his dark comedy skills alongside director Adam Buncher and the track's feature artist, Tonedeff.

Shot in JS-1's native Queens, NY, he and Tonedeff attend a costume party hoping to claim a first place cash prize, only to arrive and find themselves the only ones dressed up. After sheepishly returning home and enduring a depressing night, the duo return to the same residence at a later date only to find out that they are duped once again, this time forgetting their costumes just when they need them. A little good, old-fashioned gory revenge ensues as the video twists and turns to it's close.

DJ JS-1's No One Cares will be available for purchase on June 21st via Fat Beats Distribution.

Viral Hit "Gucci Gucci" Garners 2 Million Views In 2 Weeks

(June 8, 2011 – New York, NY) East Oakland native, visual artist, swag assassin, and undercat Kreayshawn (Kray-shawn) has officially signed with Columbia Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. The 21 year-old will release "Gucci Gucci" via digital retailers on Tuesday, June 14th and prepare her forthcoming full-length debut album, due later this year.

Described by GQ Magazine as a "loveable oddball," Kreayshawn says of the new partnership, "I'm excited to work with my new Columbia family. They understand my vision and are going to let me continue everything I've been doing. My hope is to inspire others to be young, wild, and free."

Released in mid-May, Kreayshawn's song "Gucci Gucci" became an instant viral hit, garnering over 200,000 views within the first 48 hours and over 2 million views just two weeks later. Within days of its premiere on The, the song gained support from radio stations nationwide and publications worldwide such as MTV, LA Weekly, The Guardian, and Dazed & Confused Magazine. Over cat meows, a deep warbling dubstep bassline and eerie, whistling synths, Kreayshawn advocates individualism in lieu of brand name obsession. With a hook so catchy that even disbelievers hate themselves for loving it, Kreayshawn declares, "Gucci Gucci, Louis Louis, Fendi Fendi, Prada / the basic bitches wear that shit so I don't even bother." The video features her wearing glittery, oversized pink mouse ears as a headband and rapping in front of designer boutiques on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills with fellow White Girl Mob member, stylist and DJ L1L D3BB13.

Kreayshawn first made a name for herself directing videos for fellow Bay Area native Lil B, DB The General, and Soulja Boy. While Kreayshawn hopes to lead the future generation of Girl Gang, she's currently prepping her forthcoming album, as "Gucci Gucci" makes its way to video and radio rotations and digital retailers worldwide.

Video: Dinner At The Thompson's - "Beat The System" ft. Insight

From Audible Treats:

Video: Dinner At The Thompson's - "Beat The System" ft. Insight

Since the release of their debut album, Off The Grid, vocalist Lucille Tee and producer Fablive have garnered a variety of praises, ranging from YouTube featuring the duo's video for "It All Began" on their music page, to BBC deeming them a "thoughtful, leftfield success" for trip-hop fans. AOL Music liked Off The Grid so much that they selected the album to be streamed on their Listening Party section during release week, and just proclaimed that the album will be hard "to not include on the year's 'best of' lists." And now, the genre-bending and undeniably funky Dinner At The Thompson's are back with a new thought-provoking video for their single "Beat The System."

Dinner At The Thompson's latest video is considerably darker and more political than their previous ones, but does not fall flat in the funk department. The video is essentially a series of symbolic, and sometimes graphic, photographs that are constructed to make the viewer question the definition of the words like "Father," "Country," and "Happiness," and suspect "the system" in general. They brought on Boston-based MC Insight to drop some call-to-arms bars, such as "Temperature is rising/ Senators are lying/ Tentacles are common/ Generals are silent/ Terrible the violence/ Chemicals combining/ Federal alliance." Throughout the video's striking imagery, Lucille maintains her sultry sensuality while singing the cautionary hook over Fablive's dark and panicky production.

Dinner At The Thompson's new album, Off The Grid, is available now via Earth At Works Records/FB Distribution.

Soundset wrap-up.

Thank you to everyone who came out to Canterbury Park last Sunday to see DJ Abilities and Face Candy. It was a difficult but rewarding day.

We owe a special thank you to the talented artists who took part in the Face Candy set, including Eric Blair (of No Bird Sing), 2Mex, Sadistik, Irenic, Bleubird and Carnage. Read why the Star Tribune labeled it the best set in the "artist category."

Soundset was an emotional day, and we'd like to thank everyone who made and wore an "Eyedea shirt" as a tribute. If you have photos of you or your friends wearing an Eyedea shirt (even if it wasn't at Soundset), please send them to so we can get them all in one place and add them to our own.  Read the City Pages coverage of the shirts and Face Candy set. Thanks to Lauren Alford for putting together the awesome video.
