About Sportn' Life Records & Management

Sportn’ Life Records and Management is an independent label and management company based in Seattle, WA and is home to some of the Pacific Northwest’s most talented Hip Hop, Soul, and R&B artists. Co-founded by DeVon Manier in 2002 as a vehicle to foster young urban artistsand shed much needed light on the music they were creating.

Currently, the label boasts an impressive roster of recording artists that include D.Black, Fatal Lucciauno, Spac3man, Marissa, Fly Moon Royalty and SK. Each exemplifies a unique sound and an unparalleled stage performance; as a result, they have received an extensive amount of local and regional success, garnering coverage in national publications, MTV-2 video rotation, Top 5 CMJ and Media Guide chart positions, placement and licensing to film, MTV, ESPN Action Sports, and Under Armor. In conjunction, several of them have been invited to perform at some of the worlds’ most notable music festivals like SXSW, CMJ, and Bumbershoot, and have been asked to share the stage with top tier international recording artist such as; Nas, Ice Cube, Big Boi, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, and the Wu Tang Clan to name a few.

The 2007 release of Fatal Lucciauno’s “The Only Forgotten Son” was instantly hailed a local classic. The album landed itself onto URB Magazine’s “NEXT 1,000” and it was named Best Solo Hip Hop album of the year by The Stranger Magazine. After obtaining a distribution deal in 2008 the label was able to expand its reach, and in 2009 saw larger scale movement upon partnering with San Francisco based MYX Music Label for the release of D.Black’s nationally accepted and critically acclaimed sophomore album “Ali’ Yah”. The project gained many accolades including a music video debut on XXL Magazine.com and was named number twelve on Amazon’s list of “Outstanding Albums” that same year.

2011 sees continued growth for Sportn’ Life as it has diversified its operations and created a Management, Consulting & Artist Development division. That along with the recent signing of the Electro-Soul duo Fly Moon Royalty has allowed for the label to broaden its scope in the music industry. Continuing to please its reverent community of fans with its reputation for authentic, sincere, and quality music, Sportn’ Life aims to resonate within underground indie markets & major mainstream demographics.

Gensu Dean, the SP-1200 assassin, is at it again with a new 45 for vinyl heads that pairs the ultimate fast flow track “Ramesses feat. 7evenThirty & Homeboy Sandman”, with a brand new joint titled “Wantchu” featuring the UK-based songbird Olivier Daysoul.

* http://mellomusicgroup.bandcamp.com/track/gensu-dean-wantchu-feat-olivier-daysoul *

“Wantchu” is not what you would expect from a producer touted for bringing that grimy flavor of 90’s rap back.  Instead, Dean proves he can smooth things out just as quickly as he can make them rugged.  The Imperial blesses Olivier Daysoul with a silky smooth canvas with just enough head-nod flavor to tie it all together. On his end, Mr. Daysoul lays a thick, syrupy ode to the conflicting feelings of infatuation. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself listening to this one on loop for a while.
Strictly for the collectors, this 45 will go as quickly as it came.
