On February 15, 2000, I released my debut album The Book of Daniel on One Rock Records - a label I co-founded with my crew, Monolith. Approximately three years in the making, (13 if you counted every year since I started rapping), this album marked the fruition of a childhood dream.
Spawning three videos in "Corrida De Toros" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcSkvVXMVf8), "Margerine" and "Baahd!", The Book of Daniel taught me a huge lesson in what it is to be an independent hip-hop artist from Toronto. It's HARD!
And while the struggle continues ten years later, I'm thankful for the road that The Book of Daniel helped pave for my future projects. It remains a heralded project in the history of Canadian hip-hop as its devotion to lyrical dominance was a focal point.
To commemorate the 10 Year Anniversary of The Book of Daniel, a brand new mixtape will be released shortly. In the meantime, you may purchase the original album - either CD or MP3 - for only $9.99 by clicking on the links below. It is also available on iTunes.
Thanks to everyone who has supported me for the past decade. The best is yet to come!
Interesting tidbits about The Book of Daniel that may shed some light on my obsession with the number 10:
-The album was mastered on August 29, 1999 - Michael Jackson's birthday -I arrived to the studio at exactly 12:34pm (digits equal 10) after my car ran out of gas, making me late for my session at noon -The mastering session took 10 hours to complete -The album release party for The Book of Daniel took place on February 10, 2000.

Sportn' Life's success in 2009 started with D.Black's sophomore album release, Ali'Yah, which found itself on Amazon.com's Outstanding Albums of 2009 list. D.Black played the CMJ Music Conference in New York City and was featured on the region's NBC affiliate, KING 5 Television.
In 2009, D.Black and Fatal Lucciauno were both invited to perform at some of the city's most prestigious music community events such as Chase Jarvis's "Song's for eating & Drinking," "The New Guard" dinner series and City Arts Magazines "The Song Show." Oddisee - "Kansas Bay (South Central Remix)" Feat. Stik Figa
Next Stop On The Road: Kansas With A Stik Figa Twist
The multi-talented emcee and producer Oddisee is back to the boom-bap with his "Kansas Bay (South Central Remix)". After finding success with the celebrated Diamond District crew, Oddisee has stepped back out on his own with a new 24-track instrumental album, Traveling Man. Inspired and informed by his journeys to Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, Oddisee has captured the sounds of hip-hop the world over on Traveling Man, out now digitally and available as a limited edition vinyl pressing on February 23rd. The sonic voyage continues with the "Kansas Bay (South Central Remix)" featuring Kansas City native, Stik Figa. The Midwest meets the West Coast in this re-imagining, which finds Stik Figa riding the wave of a beat steeped in G-funk and dripping with bass best suited for a low rider. As Oddisee explains, "Bay Area hip-hop has been popular in Kansas for years, and Stik Figa uses a Too $hort-esque flow to tell the comedic story of an out-of-towner's unfortunate luck on 'Kansas Bay'." Prepare yourself for your sonic travels, and let Oddisee guide you on this aural adventure from the heartland to the left coast and back again.
Oddisee's Traveling Man is available digitally via Mello Music Group.
Since producing and performing the hit track "Musik Lounge" for DJ Jazzy Jeff's Magnificent LP, Amir "Oddisee" Mohamed has pushed his involvement in the music industry into fifth gear. Taking advantage of working at A Touch of Jazz studios, Oddisee has incorporated the neo soul vibe of Philly into his eclectic and well-decorated resume. Coming from a diverse background, the half Sudanese, half African-American was blessed with musical talent from both sides of his family. Oddisee was influenced by the accomplished singers, guitarists, and poets on his Sudanese side, and on his American side, by the gospel singers, blue grass guitar players, and older cousins who gave him his first taste of hip-hop. Ironically, though, it was his Sudanese father that gave Oddisee the vinyl that fueled his passion for producing hip-hop music.
Since turning his focus towards hip-hop, Oddisee has worked with the likes of Gary Shider of Parliament and Funkadelic, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Talib Kweli, J-Live, Little Brother, Freeway, Flying Lotus, and many other respected recording artists. Now signed with Mello Music Group, Oddisee continues to be one of the hardest working producer/emcees in hip-hop, preparing to release an instrumental project, a solo project, a second Diamond District album, full album production for Finale, Trek LIfe, and Stik Figa, and is executive producing a handful of other projects. With his incredibly distinctive and mesmerizing style, Oddisee covers just about every sect of hip-hop music, creating a sound that is appealing to all music lovers. Born in Washington D.C. and raised in Maryland, Oddisee and his "Low Budget" crew, including such hip hop artists and producers as Kev Brown, Kenn Starr, and his group Diamond District (XO and yU) have already managed to leave their mark on the hip-hop community and the D.C. metropolitan area.
About Mello Music Group:
Like Lao Tzu in hip-hop, Mello Music Group provides music for the soul, from the heart of American culture, opening the realm of the intelligent hip-hop experience through melodic evocations, beats that corroborate the truth, and voices that roar above the rising void and impose order on the terrible & triumphant moments of everyday life. This is the compelling sound of Mello Music Group. Industry newcomer Michael Tolle founded MMG in 2007 and is acting Director of Operations. MMG will be releasing projects from Oddisee, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Kenn Starr, Finale, Trek Life, Dudley Perkins, Sareem Poems, and YU in 2010. http://www.myspace.com/mellomusicgroup .

SOLE & THE SKYRIDER BAND Sole, known as one of the godfathers of abstract hip hop and founding member of the Anticon label, has recorded one of his most ambitious yet accessible albums to date with 2009's Plastique. Backed by The Skyrider Band, Sole's brand of wit packed, radical and dense lyricism is perfectly accompanied by The Skyrider Band's subtle, layered post-rock-hop compositions. Since 2007 Sole & The Skyrider Band have toured relentlessly across the US and Europe playing with acts as diverse as Ghenghis Tron to Aceyalone!
DARK TIME SUNSHINE Seattle mainstay Onry Ozzborn has spent the last five years on Rhymesayers Entertainment putting out underground hip hop classics such as Grayskul's Bloody Radio and touring and collaborating with everyone from Aesop Rock to Atmosphere. Now he has started a new group with producer Zavala called Dark Time Sunshine - some say this sounds like a "Psychedelic Gangstarr" others refer to the "slight bit of Company Flow twirling in the waters beneath them" - whatever it is - it's some of the most exciting new hip hop to hit ears in a long time. Under the moniker of Cape Cowen, Onry spits abstract anthems while Zavala's boom bap psych rock production swirls, twists and bangs beneath. Their upcoming album features Aesop Rock, P.O.S., Solillaquists Of Sound, Qwel & more.
CESCHI Fresh off of a year chock full of US and European tours opening for the likes of Myka 9, Sole, Awol One, and 2Mex, Ceschi Ramos continues in 2010 bringing his brand of post-folk songwriting and left field hip hop to the stage. Ceschi is a multi-instrumentalist with super technical rapping abilties who has collaborated with musicians as diverse as Busdriver to K-Records' Little Wings. With an influence ranging from Neutral Milk Hotel to the Freestyle Fellowship - we can assure you that you've never seen or heard anything quite like Ceschi before.
Fresh off the Dope Winter Ball Tour alongside Tash of The Alkoholiks, League510 is back with their latest leak, the fun and catchy "In My Face (Womp Womp)." Hailing from the Bay Area, the group is quickly making a name for themselves as the leaders of the burgeoning Town Techno movement. Off their upcoming compilation project, Invasion Vol. 1, "In My Face (Womp Womp)" puts that sound on display, showing off the lighter side of the rising Bay Area foursome.
Taking a comedic turn, the track tells the story of a clingy girl who only hangs around League510 for the limelight. "The song is about drunk, loud-mouthed, annoying, chicken-head, jocking, gold-digging, groupie type chicks getting all in your face because they recognize you while you're out minding your own business," the group explains. "Its really more of a spoof. A joke in good spirit to diss those types of girls." The Charlie Brown-inspired "Womp Womps" and the call-and-response female voice keep the song light even as the group throws some pretty harsh zingers at the groupies of the world, and the track's pounding distorted drumbeat and deep synth - a staple of the Town Techno sound - will undoubtedly keep feet moving as the foursome of TK, Mont, Mr. Knowitall, and DJ Blacksmith give their take on the sort of hanger-on we could all do without.
League510 will be releasing Invasion Vol. 1 in the coming months, while the group's Clear Label Records debut, To The Beat, will be released Spring 2010.
Kottonmouth Kings Nominated for High Times Doobie Award
California based hell raisers the Kottonmouth Kings have been nominated for a 2010 High Times Doobie Award. The group was nominated in the "Best Hip-Hop" category alongside Cypress Hill's B-Real, Method Man & Redman, Asher Roth, and Kid Cudi. The Doobie Awards are presented in conjunction with High Times Magazine and celebrate the best in stoner culture. A full list of this year’s nominees is available online at http://hightimes.com/blog/bobbyblack/6136?utm_source=rss_home .
"Pass the doobie. It's always an honor to be recognized for your work and passion," commented Daddy X. "There are some nice stoney jams on our 'Hidden Stash' record, so it's great to hear people are feeling the album. We'd like to thank all the High Times staff and readers for all their continued love and support over the years."
The planets have aligned perfectly for the release of the Kottonmouth Kings’ new studio album, “Long Live The Kings”, which coincides with the counterculture pot-smoking holiday observed each April 20th. The album’s mind bending mixture of hip-hop, punk-rock, and melodic acoustics will surely be the soundtrack to countless bong rips throughout this year’s stoner holiday.
Blestenation Take Over Brooklyn In "Brainstorm" Video

"See, that's the power of MBugout City right there."
Blestenation will release their debut album, "MBugout City", on April 13th, 2010 through Suburban Noize Records.
