Review by Steve 'Flash' Juon

Artist: Dirty Den f/ Gorilla Zoe
Title: Fly Shit
Label: Gettin It Together Records

It's hard to say whether its a good or a bad thing to figure out a song's hook from the title before hearing it, but if you guessed it was a sample from Jay-Z's "Party Life" you're clearly on the same wavelength I am. Dirty Den's rap is also pretty easy to guess from the title - he's bragging on his swag. "Pop bottles of Rose', Grey Goose and OJ/I'm in V.I.P., that's where you find me/My ice is shiny, my goons are grimy/I do what I want, the hood behind me." The best things I can say for Dirty Den are (1.) He got an established Southern rapper in Gorilla Zoe to share the billing and (2.) He picked the right producer in Manifest because I don't hate the track. Well let's throw a (3.) on just for the hell of it - nobody's doing an AutoTune gimmick here. Maybe Dirty Den will break out of the pack in the crowded rap field, but I'm not sold yet - I need more time and a few more songs to be convinced.
