Artist: M.O.P.
Title: Blow the Horns
Label: E1 Music/Koch Records

One of the most long-awaited and highly anticipated records in hip-hop is finally dropping this summer, and "Blow the Horns" is M.O.P.'s teaser before "The Foundation" is released this summer on E1 Music (formerly Koch Records). This can't come soon enough, but to be honest, I'm more hyped about this track as an unabashed Mash Out Posse fan than most hip-hop heads might be. It's GOOD, don't get it confused, but this isn't "Ante Up" or "How About Some Hardcore" by a wide margin. Fizzy Womack's track lives up to the name by blowing plenty horns (particularly during the chorus) but doesn't leave you blown across the room by the kind of hard-hitting boom bap (or rock) that is M.O.P.'s trademark. Fame's "a pistol in the waist is different from a pistol in the trunk" lyrics are on point but predictable, and Billy Danze sounds about as subdued as is possible for a human adrenaline tank of his calibre. I like Fame reinterpreting a classic LL line during song but in 2009 most people listening won't get the reference. M.O.P.'s posse of fans will like this and the rest will wait for the next teaser single to drop to see if its hotter.
