Review by Steve 'Flash' Juon Artist: Ace Hood f/ Rick Ross, Jazmine Sullivan Title: Champion Label: We the Best Music/Def Jam Ace is wasting no time getting the promotional vehicle rolling for his second album "Ruthless" on June 30th. The engine is a beat by The Runners, the lubricant is a passionate hook from Jazmine Sullivan, and the fuel to take it down the highway is a Rick Ross cameo. "Let them suckers spectate - cause shorty I expect that/We still touchin big weight - and surely I invest that." For all the knocks Ross has taken in the media, he still sounds like a lyrical drug kingpin, and he's hardly the first person to exaggerate about his life on wax. What about his protege Ace Hood though? "Top down in the Chevy, yeah you know I keep it pimpin/And my pistol heavy - niggaz know that ain't slippin." He's clearly cut from the same cloth. There's nothing profound or innovative about this song but the rhymes are delivered well, the beat is really strong and Sullivan's hook sticks in your head long after the track ends. It's a solid start for "Ruthless" and the only complaint I can offer is that the statement "we'll see you at the Grammys" at the end seems a little TOO ambitious at present.
