MP3: Kid Static - "World Goes Round"
With his latest solo album, It Gleams, released in early June, Kid Static has been keeping plenty busy. In addition to the remixes and non-album tracks that he's been feeding fans over the past weeks, the LA-via-Chicago rapper/producer united with Windy City production team The Hood Internet for a collaboration that will appear on their upcoming album, FEAT. Static also continues to host his weekly webcast on Stickham.com, which airs every Sunday, and recently pulled in over 80,000 listeners for a single episode. Today, Static is excited to release yet another new track for fans, "World Goes Round."
The song, which premiered on DJBooth, finds Static delving a little deeper than he has with recent singles "T-Shirts & Sneakers" or "Rocks & Toothpicks," as he offers commentary on the way that average citizens interact - or, more appropriately, choose to not interact - with current and wordly events. "Yes, there are economic and societal injustices," remarks Static, speaking on what he feels is a prevailing world-view for most. "But I'm having a hard enough time doing me to worry about that."
The track, which will appear on a forthcoming EP, It Gleams: B-Sides, skillfully matches his tongue-in-cheek lyricism about the status quo with a stirring, violin-sampled beat provided by producer Maker, along with some jazzy vocal accents from Jimetta Rose. "I think the energy and skill that they brought to the table really helped push me as an artist," says Static. "They really understood where I was trying to go with it, and the execution of the track was better for it."
