HIP-HOP DUO RELEASE VIDEO FOR "GORGEOUS SPIRITS"& READY SECOND LONG AWAITED LP

Long standing Bay Area hip-hop duo Latyrx (emcees Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truthspeaker) are releasing the first music video off their recent EP for the track "Gorgeous Spirits" (produced by The Bangerz). Directed by long-time collaborators, Maximum Flavor Media, the video features the two MCs being pursued by G-Men. "It's Matrix-esque," notes Lyrics Born of the concept behind the video. "We're running from agents who are after the “Gorgeous Spirits," adds Lateef.

No doubt, 2013 is going to be a busy year for the long-heralded underground innovators. Just a few months after releasing their EP Disconnection, the hip-hop group are hitting the road with New Orleans funk Jazz jam band Galactic on their Freeze Out Tour, this week, where Latyrx will open eleven shows on the tour and will headline the two Idaho dates (Feb 20 & 21).

In the meantime, Latyrx have been in the studio putting the finishing touches on their very long-awaited second LP, The Second Album. Guests on the Fall 2013 album include DJ Shadow, Kool A.D. of Das Racist, Blackalicious, Merrill Garbus of Tune Yards, Chris Funk of The Decemberists, Spank Rock, among others.

Based in the Bay Area, Latyrx consist of the gruff and bassy Lyrics Born and the other higher-pitched and trebly Lateef the Truthspeaker. Their first and thusfar, only, full-length, 1997's Latyrx: the Album, "set the tone for what Solesides and Quannum would do," LB recalls, while 1998's Muzappers Re-Mixes EP spawned one of the only feminist-affirming club bangers in hip-hop history, "Lady Don't Tek No."

Fifteen years after the release of Latyrx: the Album, LB and Lateef have finally answered the prayers of long-starved fans who have begged, pleaded and, by now, tweeted about the possibilities of a reunion. An impromptu Latyrx set at a 2010 Jazz Mafia concert at San Francisco's Mezzanine led to an appearance at 2011's Outside Lands festival, Google's Summer Concert Series (they were the first hip-hop act to perform) and a last minute appearance as part of HITRECORD At The Movies -- a unique film and music traveling showcase curated and hosted by actor and artist Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Most recently the duo performed at the Wintersalt Music Festival in San Francisco with plans for a full US Tour in support of the album later this year.

Disconnection is available now. The Second Album is due out Fall of 2013.
