9th Prince Unleashes New Video & EPK In Advance of 'Revenge of the 9th Prince'
On April 20th 9th Prince, founding member of Killarmy and younger brother to Wu mastermind the RZA, will release his third solo album entitled Revenge of the 9th Prince featuring appearances by the RZA, Killah Priest, Killarmy, Planet Asia, Shyheim, and more.
Last week the video for “Snatching Pocketbooks” premiered on WNYC-TV’s Video Music Box with Ralph McDaniels.
Just days later, 9th released a new EPK, discussing his roots in the hip-hop game and the inspiration behind Revenge of the 9th Prince.
“I started out in the early days, like the late 80s, coming to the house. You see RZA, Old Dirty Bastard, the genius the GZA all in the studio recording. That right there, just watching them come together and do their thing, influenced me to want to be an MC. Ever since then I decided to pick up the pen and let the words begin,” 9th explains.
He launched his career with hip-hop group Sons of Man before moving on to start Killarmy in 1995. The group’s first album, Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars, rose up the charts, hitting #34 on Billboard’s Top 200 and #10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts on the strength of singles “Swinging Swords,” “Wake Up,” and “Wu-Renegades” with the next two albums following suit. In 2003, 9th embarked on a solo career and has since released Grandaddy Flow (2003) and Prince of New York (2008).
“[Revenge of the 9th Prince] is me coming back fresh from incarceration. Making my comeback from the Killarmy albums. Coming back and snatching MCs by their collars, by they necks. Stomping them out lyrically, and taking my revenge. It’s me coming back with a vengeance on the whole hip hop community.”
