D.Black- The Hustle
Critical Praise For D.Black
What will bring you back for more listens, though, will be the beats, which are worth drooling over. With blazing sonic backdrops from Jake One, Vitamin D, and D.Black himself, this multi-talented artist was certainly blessed by the hip-hop gods.
D. Black busts out of the gates on Ali'Yah like a man on a mission. Actually, that comparison is unnecessary; the Seattleite MC isn't like a man on a mission - he is a man on a mission. Ali'Yah is a major stride and statement for an artist who blends social consciousness with personal reflection.
-The Red Alert
Before a couple months ago I wasn't even sure if Seattle, Washington had a Hip Hop scene. D.Black, Seattle representative put that into focus for me with his latest album, Ali'Yah.
-The Ruby Hornet
Soulful, intelligent hip-hop from Seattle's D.Black, a protégé of Vitamin D, a quietly excellent contender for the year's best hip-hop release. This is sort of exactly what I wanted from Lupe Fiasco a few years ago, only to be slightly disappointed by Lupe pushing his "cool" further than his soul. D.Black doesn't do that -- there's no posturing, no grandstanding. Just rhyming, just love for the art; Every beat on the album is a winner, which is amazingly rare.
