NEOSONIC Blog - Guru & Nujabes Tributes

In the first 4 months of this year, hip-hop lost 2 of its' legends- Guru & Nujabes. Like many people who are fans of their music, we find ourselves searching for ways to keep them fresh in both our minds and ears, thus i'd like to share with you all some links to fan tributes put together in honor of these pioneers...

First off is Keith Elam, aka Guru from the famed duo Gang Starr.  Guru passed away last month, yet all the speculation surrounding his last days and the company he kept, has soured the grieving experience for many of us fans.  I will personally remember him as the "the king of monotone" and as the man responsible for birthing the "jazz-hop" fusion sound with his Jazzmatazz series.  The homie DJ Mekalek (from the trio Time Machine) put together a very cool blog post in honor of his favorite emcee, replete with personal stories, pictures & mixes...  CHECK IT HERE!

Next is Jun Seba, bka Nujabes- a producer that i will be forever indebted to, as he inspired me to play the music i do on my monthly instrumental show! Nujabes passed away in late winter and fans worldwide have been mourning ever since.  I always wandered how some of  Nujabes beats would have sound with more known US emcees over them, and low & behold, i get an email from a producer named PK Mao who did just that via his tribute mix, A Blend Laments The World, which you can CHECK OUT HERE!

If you guys know of anymore tributes, then please spread the word... and make sure you ALWAYS save some room for both these legends in your music playlist.

R.I.P. Guru & Nujabes
