Black Thought of The Roots Hosts Annual "Let's Move It Philly" Party; Birthday Celebration for Org. President Dr. Janice Dias to Raise Funds for GrassRoots Community Foundation Programs for Girls in Need

[Philadelphia, PA] Black Thought of Philadelphia's legendary Hip-Hop band, The Roots, invites fans and supporters to come out on Saturday, February 8 for the annual "LET'S MOVE IT, PHILLY" event to benefit girls in need in Philadelphia, Newark, NJ and across the country.

GrassROOTS Community Foundation returns to its roots! Based on First Lady Michelle Obama's national "LET'S MOVE IT" initiative to combat childhood obesity, the yearly celebration in Philadelphia is GrassROOTS Community Foundation's challenge to the community to support the critical concerns of girls growing up in impoverished neighborhoods.

In 2014, the party isn't just about the girls! Black Thought and GrassROOTS are also celebrating the birthday of noted John Jay College sociologist and Philly native, Dr. Janice Johnson-Dias. Dr. Dias founded GrassROOTS Community Foundation with longtime friend Black Thought as their personal response to helping inspire girls to grow up healthy, strong, and smart.

RUN FOR THEIR LIVES! On May 31, 2014, GrassROOTS Community Foundation will hosts its 2nd Annual "ROOTS, ROCK RUN" 5K walk/run to benefit its local programs in Philly. Details TBA!

Attendance at Saturday's "LET'S MOVE IT, PHILLY" event is by RSVP only. Supporters should log on to for tickets.
