Title: One Day in Heaven ft. Skyzoo & Jaiden Artist: John Regan Album: Sorry I'm Late Producer: YZ Label: Culture VI Records/Fat Beats
Quick story. I want to congratulate Jaiden, who just signed a deal with Interscope/Geffen. I actually thought I had "discovered" him when I stumbled across his music. Turns out, I discovered him about as much as Christopher Columbus discovered America. I used to spend hours on MySpace just listening to hundreds of artists in the hope of finding some talented, yet undiscovered, artists. I just love good music. I had gotten an email from his manager Delaney blasting out his mixtape, coincidentally at the same time I stumbled across his MySpace.
Well, I was instantly blown away. I became a fan. Asked him about doing a record, to which he was down. I told him I wanted to interview him - at the time thinking I was giving him some big break and newfound exposure.
We sit down to talk, where he begins telling me about recording, writing and touring with artists such as Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Diddy and Lauryn Hill. Turns out, this guy's resume is deeper than most "successful" artists. Go figure!
So, while I didn't exactly "discover" him, I'm proud that I became a fan before I knew of his extensive experience. I went to watch him perform a couple of weeks ago in LA at the R&B Live show (where I also ran into Macy Gray, Chico DeBarge and a host of other huge names) - the same night he agreed to a deal with Interscope/Geffen. He won the highly competitive event, by the way, and had the biggest applause and best performance, by far.
Huge shouts to Skyzoo, who has dropped two of hip-hop's best recent projects in the past 12 months - The Salvation and Live from the Tape Deck with Illmind. He's not only one of the most talented dudes (his verse on Heaven is amazing) - but one of the coolest, most down-to-earth artists I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Please go support his projects. Shouts to everybody over at Duck Down.
