"Tongue planted firmly in cheek, Amaker is nothing less than a superhero in black, leading his charges through a succession of hell bent for leather high-octane country anthems designed to put a beer in your hand and a burr in your saddle." - My Old Kentucky Blog
"Call it a throwback to a time when Johnny Cash ruled the airwaves and Ennio Morricone made soundtracks for movies, but Brent Amaker and the Rodeo's 'it's beer swillin', foot tappin', shit kickin' country and western' music--straight from Seattle--is the antithesis of every wanna be hipster band turning up the reverb." - OC Weekly
I think we're all starting to wonder... will spaghetti-western inspired cowboys Brent Amaker and the Rodeo ever stop defying the odds? Sure... their Record Release show in Seattle last month was with hip hop opener RA Scion of Common Market & Victor Shade... and yes, they covered the classic joint "Pocket Calculator" by Kraftwerk that was both unexpected and, unexpectedly awesome. But with the release of their new album 'Please Stand By' on Spark & Shine Records recently, it seems like they're just getting started.
"Man In Charge," the first single from the new record, has been widely available already, but now a brand new version has surfaced featuring Seattle emcee Tilson, who many may know from his previous project The Saturday Knights. That's right -- Tilson drops a verse and then helps out on the outro to a new version of "Man In Charge." And like many who were surprised to see Brent Amaker and the Rodeo take on Kraftwerk, they'll find that the new version of "Man In Charge" just works... further blurring genre lines, yet helping to define what B.A.R. is about even more. The track was recorded by Seattle's Greg Markel, who opened his studio to Mr. Amaker and Tilson to record and remix this new version.
In addition, there's not one but two new smart phone applications out now featuring Brent Amaker and the Rodeo, both designed by Bob Smolenski. The "B.A.R. Music Mix Master" is available for iPhone/iPad and Android, and allows users to remix their classic track "I Got a Little Hillbilly In Me." The "B.A.R. Lighter" is available on the Android exclusively, allowing fans to virtually light firecrackers & lighters at Brent Amaker and the Rodeo live shows and the most safe and sane way possible. On the latter app, Smolenski says "I was inspired to make the B.A.R. Lighter in honor of the fans who were kicked out of the [legendary Seattle venue] Crocodile for lighting real sparklers. They now have a safe "virtual" option to show the love of B.A.R."
