E.A.: Canadian artist Exmiranda has the rap world in her hands — showing as much in this fiery, flirty new video, “Tell The Time.”
The rising rap queen is long known for her striking voice, infectious flow, and unparalleled ability to infuse various genres within her eclectic style. In “Tell The Time,” the Toronto-based artist’s latest track off her upcoming debut album, she showcases just that; listeners get Exmiranda’s vox on the chorus amidst deftly delivered disco-dipped rhymes.
Having started as a poet and spoken word artist, Exmiranda ventured into the hip hop sphere by combining creative influences from the likes of Maya Angelou and Nina Simone to Biggie Smalls, Azealia Banks, Sarkodie, DMX, and many more. She released her debut single “Goose” in 2016, and received awards and accolades from the Canadian Council of the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Toronto Arts Council. Previous releases like “Relaxation Therapy” and “Grip” — a must-play flick featuring stunt drivers and fully embodying the artist’s empowering and hardcore vibe — received early support from Earmilk, Just Listen Hip Hop, Hip Hop Magz, Last Day Deaf, and more.
The rapper is playing the long-game, taking on the industry her way and with her say; Exmiranda says she wrote “Grip” after receiving mixed reactions for her androgynous sound, distinct style, and bold image. “This single is a form of ‘positive self talk’,” she says, declaring and defining success on her own terms.
Her forthcoming album Ex Marks the Spot is set for release this year.
