Mixtape: Amoeba Music Group Presents "No Rookies Allowed"

Welcome to “No Rookies Allowed,” a mixtape that shines a light on talented artists on their independent grind. Manhattan’s Amoeba Music Group and ElmoSince87.com offer this as the first in a series of label-blog collaborations. Unsigned? Yes. Unskilled? No.

From the personal stories of the artists to the making of the tape, “No Rookies Allowed” is an interesting project all around. What started as an idea by a blogger named Elmo (yes, that’s his real name) evolved into discussions with a Wall St. trader who runs his own label, DG. They targeted a talent pool of up and coming artists from different backgrounds like Dee-1 and Anthem. Where else would you hear a middle school teacher-turned-rapper or an emcee that traded in a Wall St. career for his dreams, all in one place?

Blogs have done so much for hip-hop, but good music still goes unheard. Together, AMG and ElmoSince87 hope to bring some of that music to light. NRA is a great way to give a voice to more artists and take advantage of how viral music is becoming. This benefits the artists, blogs, and listeners. Most of all, it’s good for hip-hop.
