Devo Spice Update - The FuMP's 500th Song, TMBG Cover

Hi everyone!

It’s June.  You know what that means!  Or not.  If you don’t I’m not telling you.  So there.

--== The FuMP Celebrates 500 Songs ==--
A few months ago I got curious about how many songs The FuMP had posted since we launched.  After counting them up I realized that we were fast approaching our 500th song.  I emailed the guys and said I wanted to do something special to celebrate the milestone.  I came up with an idea for a big group jam.  I wanted to do a parody of We Are The World called We Are The FuMP and feature as many FuMP artists on it as we could rustle up.

Luke Ski took the idea and ran with it, writing a brilliant parody featuring references to several dozen FuMP songs and coordinating all the artists involved. Bob Emmet of Project Sisyphus did the music and pieced the whole thing together.  In the end, 39 artists make an appearance on the song and it is epic.  You can listen to it and download it here: http://thefu.mp/500

And to put the icing on the cake all proceeds from the song are going to go to Marc Gunn to help his daughter Kenzie.  Kenzie was born with a heart defect that will require her to have several surgeries.  If you would like to donate to help Marc offset his medical costs you can do so on this page: http://marcgunn.com/about/support-kenzie

Now all we need is someone to do a South Park style animated music video for the song since there’s no way all 39 of us are ever going to be in the same place at the same time.

Renovation, the 69th annual World Science Fiction Convention is happening in mid August in Reno, NV and I am thrilled to announce that I will be there along with Throwing Toasters and Dr. Demento.

The current plan as I understand it is to have a block of comedy music at some point on Thursday, August 18th.  That’s all the information I have right now.  I’ll post more as I get it.  For more information on the convention visit: http://www.renovationsf.org

--== They Might Be Giants Cover Project ==--
On September 11, 2001 at midnight They Might Be Giants released their album Mink Car with a party at Tower Records in Manhattan.  We all know what happened later that day.  For the 10th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks there is going to be a new cover version of Mink Car released with all proceeds going to the FDNY Foundation.

Mink Car will be covered track by track by artists such as MC Frontalot, Shael Riley, Molly Lewis, brentalfloss, Nuclear Bubble Wrap, and more.  I will be contributing to the album as well.  I will be doing “Mr. Xcitement.”

The Mink Car Cover Project is being produced by Blue of Hello, The Future! and should be available in late August.  They are accepting preorders now at http://www.minkcarcover.com.

--== Nerdapalooza’s Comedy Music ==--
Nerdapalooza is fast approaching- a 2 day festival of nerdcore hip hop and general geeky music.  Awesome doesn’t begin to describe this event.  This year, representing The FuMP and funny music in general will be me, along with Luke Ski, and Insane Ian.

Many of the usuals will be there as well including Shaffer The Darklord and Captain Dan And The Scurvy Crew.

Nerdapalooza also has a Kickstarter campaign going to try to help improve the overall event.  If you can donate some money it will be greatly appreciated.

--== eTalentShowcase ==--
A new web site for creative professionals launched recently called eTalentShowcase.  I set up a simple profile with them and I’m thrilled to announce that I am currently their featured Talent Of The Week, with a link right on their home page.

Check them out at http://www.etalentshowcase.com

And I just wanted to mention that the free downloads of the month over at http://www.devospice.com are:

Brain Food - This is a zombie-gangsta-rap song written for Mur Lafferty’s audio drama The Takeover available at http://zombinc.net.  The Takeover is about a web design firm that gets bought out by a staffing company that employs zombies.

Nerds Rule - This is a collaboration with nerdcore superstar YT Cracker which came about when he had trouble recording vocals for another song.  He wrote a verse and recorded it for me and then I wrote the rest of the song around his verse.

That’s all folks!  As always you can find me on the web in various places:
