MP3: John Dew - "King On A Throne"

The Song:

The city of Houston, known for its vitality in hip-hop, has been the hometown for a plethora of extraordinary artists, and John Dew's name sits comfortably amongst the group. Since the 2009 release of his debut EP Summertime Johnny and a mixtape in 2010 with GoDJ StarrSkywalka, Dew has been hard at work perfecting his craft while sharing the stage hip-hop heavyweights such as Talib Kweli, Blu, Raekwon, and Black Thought of The Roots. But now, in 2011, he has linked up with DJ Cozmos for his newest project Tech-NASA (which stands for Taking Earth Children Higher, Navigating Audio Sonic Amplifications), and light's the torch with the first single "King On A Throne."

The track draws inspiration from the idea of a king, John Dew in this case, being the master of his domain, rather than simply being used as a pawn in the game. "I control my destiny, and I approach the music industry in my own way and style," Dew explains about the boastful track. For him, "King On A Throne" is a "declaration of independence" with the ability to inspire others to be kings and queens in their own right, and to take their destiny in their own hands. With defining lyrics such as "Make an impression, Denting the game, Put a fence around, We jump it and get in that thing, It aint nothing that they can sale me" and an up tempo synth heavy beat from DJ Cozmos, John Dew's message is a powerful one.
