When you think of Andre Nickatina, a few things come to mind: Bay Area icon, Fillmore District native, and award-winning rapper (2005 Bay Area Artist of The Year / Album of The Year for Bullets), to name a few. Since bursting onto the scene in 1992, the artist formerly known as Dre Dog has not only remained relevant through two decades with his music, but has also transcended that world with forays into film, including credits as a director, producer, and actor. Above all, Nickatina has proven, again and again, to be one of the most innovative rappers pioneering the worlds of Bay Area and independent hip-hop as one of the foremost spokesman for the city of San Francisco.
And with the video for his latest single, "Still Gon' Ball," Nickatina is putting both his rapping and acting skills on front street, taking on the role of a catch-me-if-you-can car heist mastermind. Along with featured artists Messy Marv and J. Valentine, Andre plays the part of a high-profile car jacker to perfection, complete with funny-face masks and elaborate schemes, in a visual that draws its inspiration from one of the most fun action movies of the '90s. "The video is inspired by the movie Gone in 60 Seconds," says Andre. "We wanted to break away from the traditional rap video and give the fans a storyline to follow." Director Derek Jones tracks Andre and company through the streets of San Francisco as they swipe candy painted Mercedes and Porches, quickly amassing a tricked-out collection that would quickly turn the eyes green of even the most accomplished car aficionado.
