New Audio: Moe Pope f/ Sun Kil Moon - "Grey Clouds"

Moe Pope's career first took off in the early 2000s with the Bay Area-based hip-hop band Mission (who later became known as Crown City Rockers). After a series of 12"s, Pope appeared on the group's LP, One, in 2001, before deciding to return to Boston in order to look after his daughter. Back in his hometown, he connected with rapper/producer Insight and his five-man outfit, Electric (aka Electric Company).

First Dirt has teamed up with accredited videographer, Mark Gallegos, and the world renown shoe company, Vlado Footwear, to release a series of short interviews with recording artist, Timothy Rhyme, about the top hip hop albums of all time that influenced him to make his next album release with producer Phil The Pain, Vintage. This release will coincide with his 1st ever US tour so stay tuned for dates.  In this episode, Timothy Rhyme gives credit to legendary Wu-Tang member Raekwon for Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.

New York is about minding your own business, doing your own thing." Currently, Rudolf is in the process of completing a new album. "I moved back to New York, got back to basics, shut the door and started working by myself again," he said. "I had done the whole LA thing. New York just brings out a different side of me...more edgy and raw. I can't wait for people hear this album. They're going to be surprised."

Adam Yauch, one-third of the pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 47. Yauch, also known as MCA, had been in treatment for cancer since 2009.

Inspired by the current recession MC Squair Blaq (of Animate Objects & the Chicago Afro-beat Project) tells a story of a man who looses his employment to outsourcing, then while heading to the unemployment office his car breaks down and to top it all off after he finally makes it home he discovers that his personal belongings were thrown in the dumpster by a former girlfriend. The album produced and mixed by Mulatto Patriot has plenty of warm summertime sample based production infused with a good amount of live instrumentation. Last month, Hieroglyphics rapper Casual announced that his new album, He Still Think He Raw, will be released on May 22nd. The album is produced entirely by DJ Fresh & The Whole Shabang, and is a sequel of sorts to Casual's 2001 album, He Think He Raw. To go along with that announcement, Casual released the first single and visual for HSTHR, "Tears." Today, Casual is excited to release the second single off the project, "Rock My Shit."

In a climate of posturing and pomp, it is refreshing to see an artist like Topeka, Kansas’ Stik Figa unafraid to come As Himself.   After spending years gaining prominence in his hometown and love from the likes of Miles Bonny and Oddisee, Stik Figa steps up to the national stage with his debut Mello Music Group album As Himself.  The album is blue-collar rap, at times somber and at times jovial. There is no hyperbolized varnish here, just the raw grain of Stik’s mental flow.
