This week on the Retro Hunting Adventures, I went through my catalogue of Japanese GameBoy games and picked out video titles where language is not a barrier to gameplay: Daruman Busters, Mario’s Picross, Parodius, Puyo Puyo and TwinBee Da! Only one of the five was ever released in North America (Picross) and it did poorly here so the Japanese version is FAR cheaper if you combine shipping on multiple import games.

Keep in mind this is in no way saying you should NOT learn Japanese, just that these are import games that are easy to play regardless of your knowledge base, and if you want a low barrier to entry they’re a great place to start.
