Dave Blunts :: I Can Do What You Can Do

It’s impossible to start a review of “I Can Do What You Can Do” without telling you the facts. Fact number one – Dave Blunts wrote “H*** H****r” for Kanye West. If you weren’t already of the opinion West was a sick man in desperate need of help, that song alone should be your answer, and shame on Dave Blunts for enabling that sickness no matter how large the paycheck was. Speaking of large that brings us to fact number two – Dave is a big man. I’m not a fat shamer. I think people who fat shame others on or offline are shameless grifters trying to sell products or “life coaching” videos. There has to be some level of self-awareness though about the fact you can’t perform live without needing an oxygen tank to breathe.

The problem is being morbidly obese made Dave Blunts “go viral” so he’s made it his brand. He’s even promoting it with the cover of “I Can Do What You Can Do,” seemingly unable to sit up long enough to perform his vocals for the photo. I realize it’s staged and that it’s designed to exploit the virality of his infamy. If it was all just a gimmick I wouldn’t be worried about Davion Blessing, but when he says he was “Laying In the Hospital” it’s not a gimmick. I’d like to see him thrive and enjoy life even if getting healthier might cost him some of his audience. We lost Big Pun to a heart attack brought on by his excess size. Wouldn’t you rather Pun still be here today with his wife and three children, whether he was making music or not? I know I would.

So I’m over here cheering for Dave Blunts to make it, to live his best life, and then he just proves why Kanye West tapped him to write music with the song “Pronouns.” I still wish nothing but the best for him but the sentiments he expresses on this track are gross.

At what point do we stop separating the artist from his art? Dave Blunts is a professional troll. He’s trolling people by make us care about him yet not caring about himself. He’s trolling people by writing antisemitic anthems for a black racist (which should be an oxymoron but Kanye is just a regular moron). He’s trolling us by writing He-Man woman hating tracks like “This Is Her Destiny.” His AutoTune is better than most, his production is just fine, but the fact you can hear him so clearly makes what he’s saying so much worse.

“I can’t change the bitch, I can’t save the bitch
I know Abigail is destined to keep doing dicks
She sent her pussy to my phone, I told her ‘spread the lips’
The Bible warned me about me women that’s adulterous”

I can’t even with this. He’s using the Bible to justify treating all women as untrustworthy hoes. I’d say it was masterful trolling 10 years ago, but it’s 2025 now. We’ve got people in every day life walking around saying shit like this with no repercussions. You can’t troll people who already think or feel this way. They’re in an echo chamber and he’s echoing their most misogynistic and homophobic thoughts. Dave Blunts doesn’t care about your pronouns. He doesn’t care about his own health. He doesn’t care about being a ghostwriter for Mr. West. Do you get it? He and Kanye go together like PB&J because neither one cares and they get rich together by making the extreme far right ecstatic. His next album will probably be called “Fuck You Poor Fags” and it wouldn’t be a joke. He means it. I don’t enjoy his music for that reason but congratulations to him for finding a lane and making the most of it. I hope for good health and a long life for him.
