“When you talkin’ to the boss you need to mind yo’ manners
When you talkin’ to a boss you need to mind yo’ business”
Zeethewizard, real name Zec’Quire Fields, passed away on January 5th, 2026 at only 25 years old. The Dallas area rapper’s untimely end came as the result of a shooting in the parking lot of a local night club that had just held its grand opening celebration. Three other people also suffered injuries, but the shooting of Fields suggests (unfortunately) that jealousy and envy reared their ugly heads yet again. Fields had just signed with Future’s Freebandz label in August and was hot enough locally to earn a spot in the top 25 Dallas-Fort Worth rappers of 2025. His was a star on the rise.
The proof of that statement is in Zee’s “Chevy” video, which has already amassed over 100,000 views even though it was only released in December. While his style and swagger are as Texan as they come, his rapid fire non-stop delivery personally remind me of a Chicago or New York drill emcee. It was an intriguing combination and it’s not hard to see why Future and his imprint took notice of him. In fact the comparison to Chicago drill seemed even more apt to me when I learned G Herbo was working on music with him before he departed this plane of existence.
Even though he was a known figure in the DFW and larger Texas rap scene, the “Real As They Come” rapper deserved the chance to bring his music to a larger audience nationally. The irony of Jadakiss saying “dead rappers get better promotion” comes to mind right now, as a lot of people (myself included) are just now learning about him. There’s a lot of ugliness in this country right now and the “me first fuck everything and everybody else” attitude comes from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue right down to the streets. We need to care more about each other and less about material success or coveting what others have that we don’t. Rest in power to Zec’Quire Fields.
