Welcome back to Genesis Does! This week’s game is Decap Attack, released first in 1990 in Japan by Vic Tokai, then given a full reskin to Westernize it in 1991 with new graphics, new music, and the works. I suspect a few of the enemies (like the GD ducks) might be the same, but it’s largely a different entity including various game play mechanics like your hit counter, extra lives, et cetera.

I both love AND hate this game. It’s quirky, it’s unique, it’s fun to take for a spin now and then, but it’s SO HARD to control that I often wind up quitting and playing something else after a short time. To their credit though I never end up chucking this game out because I’ve got a complete in box copy with all the extras, and I do think it’s a very unique game (fitting for Genesis Does) but it’s probably not as much fun for me as other people.
