The world of gaming has been rapidly evolving for some time. What we now know as gaming looks completely different to what we were familiar with at the start. Technology is evolving at a very fast pace and with over $120bn invested in the industry, most gamers can agree that things have never been better. So, what’s the latest from this existing industry? Let’s take a look at some of the gaming trends that are set to define 2021.

Remastered Video Games:

Today we have an entire generation of adults who grew up playing video games on consoles and PC. As a result, there’s a huge trend around nostalgia in video gaming and players are given chances to replay some of their favourite childhood games on modern consoles. Remastered versions of older favourites are constantly being released and they are performing very well. And, many of these games that we once enjoyed as single-player only games have now been remastered to offer online play that offers a completely new experience.

More Mobile Gaming:

Gamers have been making the switch to mobile play for a while now since it’s much more convenient compared to sitting behind a desktop PC. The increase in mobile use in general has been one of the biggest tech trends of the past few years and gaming is no stranger to the growing popularity. And it’s not just the vast number of smartphone games that are now available that is taking the industry by storm. More and more options are arriving to allow gamers to enjoy their favourite titles on the go including powerful gaming laptops and handheld consoles like the Nintendo Switch.

Virtual Reality:

Virtual reality is one of the biggest tech trends in the past couple of years and there’s set to be much more of it in gaming in 2021, especially thanks to the recent release of the new Oculus Quest 2 VR gaming headset, which is much more affordable compared to previous headsets like the HTC Vive. Virtual reality gaming allows gamers to completely immerse themselves in the world of the game and enjoy an interactive experience like no other. Along with increasing options for gamers to incorporate VR into their gaming set-ups at home, more and more VR arcades are opening around the world.

Cross-Play Options:

In the past, you could only play a game with others if they had the same console as you – but that’s no longer a problem. More and more games are now offering cross-play options to players who want to share their favourite games with their friends who use a different setup to themselves. There’s no need to worry about missing out on gaming with friends if you can’t afford every console out there – just pick your favourite one and choose from the growing range of games available that can be easily played cross-platform.
